This is the first year we’ve had hellebore and with our very warm recent weather, they started blooming earlier this week. I really like the way the buds curl down, and the one just opening in front caught my eye.

I used Topaz Detail Soft Looking, followed by the Nik Color Efex Pro 4 Midnight filter to give the dark effect I was looking for. I then used several textures – Aventura from French Kiss Textures, and lower opacity layers of Turtle Shell and Villa Adriana from Flypaper Textures.

I am a photographer living in Massachusetts and my passion is flowers. I take the time to reveal the special beauty of each flower and I hope that comes through as you look at my work.

Beautiful work Anita – it could be a detail taken from a Renaissance painting! A favourite for me.

I can imagine the original and how you coaxed this more dramatic image from it. Wonderful work, Anita!

  • Thank you so much for your kind words, Celeste. Oh, I like that – coaxed the more dramatic image! As always, I had a lot of fun playing with it until I got the look I wanted.

This is beautiful, Anita. I love how your use of textures has given this a soft, romantic and slightly mysterious look.

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comments and the fave, Jan – I really appreciate both! Our hellebore is actually starting to bloom now, which means spring can’t be far away!
