I’ve never seen a hibiscus like this before! I shot it at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge, MA in August but it didn’t have a tag.I love the two-part flower and the way the primary petals are spread almost like wings.

I spent a lot of time playing with textures to get the feeling I wanted, and the result uses textures from French Kiss, Flypaper Textures, and Kim Klassen at various opacities and blend modes. Oh, the fun of the late fall/winter processing season!

So sorry I missed this earlier, as it is such a rare and lovely hibiscus – or at least it looks rare to me, and hibiscus is a common shrub in my area. The small secondary flower is delightful, and you’ve done a fine job of enhancing the image with your textures without overpowering the delicacy of the flower.

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Celeste! I was really captivated by this flower and I wish it had a tag so I could give it a name. It may well be a rare hibiscus – I’ve never seen one quite like it!
