Artist's Description

I love cranesbills and I spent many evenings photographing ours, especially the white ones. The flowers were incredibly diverse – some flat, some cupped, some with tight petals, others loose, and of course I had to try and capture as many variations as I could. This was one of my favorites – the angle and shape of the flower and the way it embraces the early evening light just really drew me in.
Nikon D700 and Nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro lens.

I did basic adjustments in Lightroom 5, then in Photoshop used Nik Color Efex Pro Darken/Lighten Center and two textures from Kim Klassen – Xanthe and iAm – set to Soft Light at low opacity. I wanted to really darken the edges to showcase the flower so I brought it back to Lightroom and used a preset from OnOne called The Dark Side.
