I put weight on

I put weight on
You ever put weight on?
I never put weight on

When I was a kid
No matter what I did
Never put weight on

When dad left home
We were all alone
Never put weight on

And when mum upped and left
We were bereft
Still, never put weight on

But – Gran took us in
And there was Uncle Sin
Then I put weight on

Well nothing was said
When I put weight on

Just called me daft in the head

An’ I wished I was dead

When I put weight on

Now I count the cost
‘cos my baby I lost

Never put weight on
You ever put weight on?
I never put weight on

Artist's Description

i wrote most of this poem and found i was unable to finish it untill a young woman confided in me…she had been raped…her concern was for others to be aware of potential dangers and also to be comforted knowing that they need not be alone…therefore this and all my similar poems that speak out against the evils of the world is dedicated to all abused – men as well as women and children…
