Artist's Description

An appropriately enigmatic view from the sheltered Northern garden of the Lost Gardens of Heligan (Cornwall) provides the frame for a poem that must be read ‘going with the flow’ – not just top to bottom.

_While waiting for true love to come
I wandered all alone
knew no friend I knew no joy
was so far from home

The longest days and nights were mine
I could not bear to peep
beyond the curtain of my gloom
nor could I safely sleep

For when perchance I slept
I saw such dreams
they filled my mind my soul
with sad and mournful themes

And so from sleep I had to run
until my frenzied labours
were all that I could represent
no gifts no joy no favours

Ah! then you came you rescued me
from my unyielding foe
you set me on another path
and true love I did know_
