Wading up to my waist in sea water I was able to capture the opening of the ‘Nine Daughters’ Hole’ in the cliffs of Ballybunion, Kerry, Ireland. This is a blow hole that you can see down through to the sea below from on top of the cliff. We could just reach the edge of this cave and look up towards the sky through the cave.
Legend has it that a Chief in Ballybunion discovered that one of his daughters had become betrothed to a rival chief from further along the shore. To discover which daughter it was, he threw the engagement ring into the hole to see which daughter would dive in to try to retrieve it! All nine daughters dived in and died.
