The Celtic Cross, sometimes referred to as the Irish Cross is these days represetative of the Christian Church in Ireland. Ancient Celtic crosses can also be found in other Celtic regions such as Cornwall in England, Wales, Scotland and the Scottish Isles. It’s origins are unclear, but the notion that it was introduced by St Patrick is not true as the symbol was around long before his time.
The cross in this shot is a headstone on a grave at Killahenna Cemetery, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry, Ireland, where many of my ancestors and relatives are buried.
