Ireland
A huge Celtic Cross in the graveyard surrounding the Lislaughtin Friary (Mainistir Lios Laichtín) ruins near Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
In 1477, John O’Connor (the same O’Connor who had Carrigafoyle Castle built) requested permission from Pope Sixyus IV to found a Franciscan friary in his desmesne. A community of friars remained at Lislaughtin until 1580 when, following the murder of three friars, the destruction and looting of the Abbey by the same English forces that had taken Carrigafoyle Castle, The Friary was abandoned.

Very powerfully presented Tony. Love the oversaturated background glow around the cross and the up angle perspective. Cheers, S
