Killarney - Ladies View
After driving up through the mountains of Killarney, this wonderful view (Ladies View) can be seen looking down into the valley where some of the lakes can be seen nestled in amongst the mountains. Once part of the enormous Herbert estate at Muckross, the road to this scenic vista was improved in honor of Queen Victoria’s visit in 1861. The panorama inspired such awe and gasps of admiration from the Queen’s ladies in waiting that it was dubbed “Ladies’ View.” From this point, the Upper Lake, Middle Lake, Black Valley, MacGillycuddy Reeks, and Gap of Dunloe are clearly visible.

Oh, how cool of you to know the story. Once part of the enormous Herbert estate at Muckross, the road to this scenic vista was improved in honour of Queen Victoria’s visit in 1861.

Thank you, thank you I wanted to say that but was so scared I have not got the right story. I must admit when we stood there I could understand that this view will draw gasps as it is just spectacular. Tony I am UK mad and totally addicted to any English History ! I normally come to my “hart’s country” once a year, we are booked to come in December but with this flippen exchange rate at the moment our holiday is in the balance. This world wide economy crisis has made the exchange rate go off the deep end
A90Six replied
You’re welcome Sandra! The Lakes of Killarney are in Ireland, which is not part of the UK. The history of the English in Ireland is well known by the Irish and all but unknown by the English.
English history classes in schools will rarely, if ever, mention anything about the English activities in Ireland over the last thousand years.
I hope the exchange rate improves for you before your planned trip, but if not, there’s always next year and the Summer weather, when the grass is so green it makes your eyes water.

Thanks Kala! Go see it! You could spend a month walking through the forests in the Mountains of Killarney and not see one hundredth of the beauty it has to offer.
