In And Out The Dusty Bluebells
This is a shot taken in Spring of the bluebells that carpet the floor of the Weald.
I remember playing In and Out the Dusty Bluebells as a child at school. I wonder if it is still played anywhere today?
In and out the dusty bluebells: All but one of the children stand in a circle, hold hands, and then lift them up into arches. The remaining child weaves in and out of the arches to the tune of In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, Who shall be my partner?
The child then stops and stands behind one of the other children in the circle. While they all sing the chorus, the child behind taps on the child’s shoulder in front. Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder, Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder. Tippy Tippy tappy on your shoulder, You shall be my partner. The child behind then gets hold of the second child’s waist, and they weave through the arches together, with the remaining children cloing up the circle. Thetwo then pick a third child at the chorus, and so on, with the line getting longer and longer until the last two in the circle foorma an arch, one gets chosen as the last partner and the last child starts a new game in the middle.
How simple life was then.

No I said I may not be able to comment on everyones work! I had 6 pages of new work today! Mind you a couple on my watch list had added loads and loads of images each… it’s just hard to keep up sometimes!
A90Six replied
Ah, that was it! I too am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up. It’s nice to have the attention, but it’s so much more difficult when your Watchlist grows. thank you for finding the time for me!

Amazing DOF – I can never keep the focus sharp at high Fstops. Colors are great too. Technical may not be everything but it sure helps to know what you are doing and you obviously do.
A90Six replied
Thank you! Aahigh f-stop and a not too bright day make for a long exp and, if you’re lucky, no breeze.

Enchanting… Delightful.. Vivid… A style all your own A90Six… What does that stand for anyway..

Funny you should ask about the name. Another young lady member just accurately identified it’s significance in the last hour and yet it rarely gets a mention. It is model of an old car from the 1950s. I have owned two Austin A90Six Westminsters in the past. The first when I was younger and ended up being unable to afford to keep running and the second was stolen in broad daylight outside my home five years ago, never to be seen or heard of since.

Tony, Tony, Tony what a trophy shot ! Wooow you have got to feel so proud of this one !
A90Six replied
Thank you Sandra, but they’re all my babies! How could I favour one over another? So, so glad you like it though!
Truth be told, this shot was sitting in my hard drive for about eighteen months. Since coming to RB I have been trawling through the ‘library’ to see what I think is worthy of uploading. This just needed a little care and attention. It’s great when one sees and others appreciate the results of a little nurture!
:) Tony.

Interesting. I see the shape of a Faerie with wings in the bark on the tree to the right.
Was that intentional?

Hi there! totally unintentional I’m afraid, but it certaily adds to the mood of the shot! thanks for noticing!

Wonderful work. It doesn’t look like the Orton effect has been applied because it’s very sharp and still it has the same kind of dreamy effect like a scene from fairy tale. Awesome. Regards, Vadim

A glorious shot, Tony! It reminds me of a painting done by the U.K.’s Karen Simmons and is in a watercolour book she wrote. I appreciate now being able to see the real thing!
A90Six replied
Hi Pat! Glad you liked it. I’ll have to look Karen Simmons up to see her work!
:) Tony.
Pat Yager
Hi, Tony, Karen was a wonderful watercolor artist, knew how to paint loose and “painterly”, but sadly, she died of cancer a few years ago. She wrote at least two watercolor instruction books and made several videos as well. I hope you can still find her work on the internet. —Pat

Such a beautiful image, a real sense of place and mood. Well done! The story of the children’s game was charming, I’d never heard it before.
A90Six replied
Thanks Tamara! It was one of the many games that kids used to play before Playstaions, Nintendos, X-Boxes and PCs came along and made them all sedentary.

This is a lovely image and I loved your story. I seem to remember something like that from my childhood. I hope that one day I will be able to come to England in the springtime and see these very famous bluebells that carpet the floor of your woodlands.

Thenks Marjorie. It won’t be too long now before they flower again. I’ll be back out there looking for the shot!

Congratulations on the feature – I love this – never hear of the game – not played in Denmark :-)
A90Six replied
Thanks Kira!
It’s an old game and can go on for hours, or until the kids get fed up with singing and running around.
:) Tony.
Marjorie Wallace
I had not heard of this game before, but then we do not having them blooming like this in my country. I have long been fascinated with the bluebells that seem to bloom wild in England and long one day to see this magic up close and personal. What a beautiful capture you have here and an instant favorite for me.
A90Six replied
Thanks Marjorie!
The Common or English Bluebells are a wonderful sight in many woods in England, France, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Romania in the Spring. It is being replaced in Spain and Portugal by the Spanish Bluebell and in Italy by the Italian Bluebell.
In the United Kingdom the common bluebell is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Landowners are prohibited from removing bluebells on their land for sale and it is a criminal offence to remove the bulbs of wild bluebells. This legislation was toughened up in 1998 under Schedule 8 of the Act: the trade in common bluebell bulbs or seeds is an offence.
The colour of the flowers is affected by the soil (don’t ask me which way around it is). Whether it is more acid or more alkali can make the flowers range from blue to a pinky-lavender colour.
