This homestead was constructed in 1880 on the banks of the Diamantina R, Central Queensland. It is made from sandstone. The homestead was abandoned in the 1960’s and has suffered from the elements, neglect and theft. The image was captured on an overcast day. I did crop this image to remove a person in the background…Also features in the song ‘Dimantina Drover’ for those country music buffs…

Well, it gave 80 years of loyal service and it really DOES look pretty sturdy. There are a couple of groups in here that specialise in photos of this nature – I’m sure they would like to have this one.
