Kardinya, AUSTRALIA

Many years ago, I was given a novelty camera for my 8th birthday. To my surprise it actually took pictures! Not great ones, but enough to get me started. From there I learned how to develop both film and prints.(Preferred B&W for this, as amber or red lights could be used) I will always have a special place in my heart for B&W photography. It’s easier to get a spectacular and vivid color image, but it’s a bit trickier to get an eye catching B&W. Even with the age of digital imaging, I tend to take photographs as if they are still film and I am on a tight budget. It tends to make me wait for that just right shot.

I took my love of photography and put it to use, and got a graphic arts degree. My talents of drawing, painting and layouts came in handy when we were assigned projects that had to be designed from scratch.

I am originally from the US, and moved to the land of roos and wallabies in 2000.

I tend to have a strange eye when it comes to selecting photographic subjects, finding beauty in some rather different subjects. A friend of mine told me I was a “Zen photographer”, and yes, I took it as a compliment.

Concept Photo shoot
Last week was the culmination of an idea I had. I had wanted to recreate, with a live model, some Greco/Roman statues and friezes. It went from an idea, to a concept. / Then came the planning stages. I researched, went to the library, scoured the internet for imagery of statues, both marble and bronze, friezes and pottery. I also borrowed some items from a local historical re-creationist group. …
