8-bit 1988 Air Jordan 3 Collection by

The 9th Design Regiment brings you another pop-culture inspired pixel art design.

The Air Jordan 3 was released in 1988. This was the era of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the low-res, 8-bit art of classic NES games has inspired this take on one of the most popular sneakers of all time.

This was the first sneaker designed by Tinker Hatfield for Michael, the first to feature the famous jumpman logo and the first with a window showing off the bubble that eased MJ’s landings.

Going with a lower profile to cater to Michael’s dynamic game, Tinker ensured stability with an innovative midsole that wrapped up the side of the foot more where firmness was needed and less where flexibility was called for.

Famously, this was the shoe that wowed Michael with it’s technical and aesthetic design, specifically tailored to his style and needs, making him rethink ending his sponsorship with Nike. It was the beginning of an amazing collaboration between MJ and Tinker, and the beginning of one of the most famous bodies of industrial design work ever produced.

Perfect for rocking with your Air Jordan collection, the numbers in this design are colored to match each of the 4 original colorways of this legendary shoe. Grab a matching iPhone case and clothes to complete a killer outfit.

The 9th Design Regiment will be launching more art inspired by classic Air Jordan and Nike sneakers soon, but if you want to see any particular Air Jordan, Air Max, Air Force or other historic Nike shoe in this style, feel free to make a request.
