SWEETEST SOLACE (SONNET)

I take some time to smell a rose and dream
Which of these is sweeter I now ponder
Could it be the bud with pedals of cream
Or the fantasy through which I wander

Can this flower brighten my dreary day
Like little sips from my favorite wine
Is it too much to ask of such a spray
For good to come from such a thorny vine

Will my salvation be this incubus
Can it arrive in such a common form
Is this a matter I need not discuss
If due to this my broken heart shall warm

So I shall take a moment just for me
And in so doing set my essence free

The first Sonnet I have written since my college days, back in 19#?!%&. Not as easy as I remember.

    This is a lovely sonnet

  • There’s parts of those 19#?!%&’s that are better forgotten, or at least tucked away.
    Thanks for the compliment!

You…you got the rythm and rhymming…accurate and flowing.
And the sweetness of your pacing is precious.
Heart breaking….pricking thorns with sticky blood,
smelling sensual precission…love your way of sonneting.
It is not easy, and you have done it….wonderfully.
    Rosa

  • Thank you for all the great compliments! This was a true labor, but definitely worth it.

Because a rose is a rose, but much more than a rose, and your soul is more than a picker´s rose, this sonnet so well deserves it.

  • Thank you for so many kind words. So eloquently put as well. I’m definitely inspired to do another.
