Blackwater Qld's Mining Museum by

Blackwater Qld’s Mining Museum is to be opened by Queensland’s Premier
Anna Bligh, this Sunday August 31st 2008. I have been told the original budget
was 3 million dollars. Donations from public companies, Local, State & Federal Governments still does not warrant the blow-out to 9 million dollars.

Sad to say the district is still waiting for a decent swimming pool!

l hope you get your pool ! that 9 million would have built a pretty good one ! lol, guess you needed one of these too ??

  • No mention of a pool in today’s Morning Bulletin 1st Sep08, & according to Anna Bligh, we have to thank Ludwig Leichhardt for discovering coal here 150 years ago.
Thanks for $9.5million. I cannot find in the ‘Budget,’ anything about the $100 million she is pulling out of the hat, to be spent in the next three years. Thanks Trudi, for taking the time to look at my picture.

It makes you wish the local governments put these things up for public vote,l can never work out why they build things that will interest just a few, when the majority would want something far more useful for the community,we have the same sort of issues here in Victoria too !

  • Thanks handprintz. Governments seldom listen to the people.

I used to do a transport run between Rocky and Emerald, but finished up just after they knocked down the playground and built the small centre there. Just before this thing got built.
I know how long the current pool has been there because I know Blackwater from at least 1980 and more intimately in ‘83 and ’86.
The local pool has been patched, repaired and otherwise undergone token ’improvements’ for over 30 years. It was old when I swam in it regularly in 1983.
Idon’t discuss my blackwater history much. I was a construction worker and a heavy (but not violent) drinker. That’s all there was to do back then…work and drink. Suffice to say my family history in blackwater goes back to 1982 and continues to this day. I don’t go there often purely for financial and vehicle reasons nowadays. Oh, and what I drink in a week nowadays (12 stubbies or less) is what I used to drink just get my thirst quenched when I lived there. Bad juju out there for me…

  • I was very angry with the big mines & council & happened to be in town as I had found my freedom by catching the Greyhound up & back, just 20 klm. They are all so wasteful.. I have put my drinking days behind me as they do not mix with B/P tablets, & the budget.
