Is this the end of the road for Main Drive, Kew ?

On the map it certainly is.

Sitting right on the border of Yarra Bend National Park, the State Heritage listed former Willsmere Asylum built in 1872, and Kew Cottages which opened outside the walls of the asylum in 1887 have never been far from the Victorian Parliament in Spring Street.

Following a Parliamentary Inquiry into Public Land Development in 2008, the Victorian Ombudsman is now investigating the probity of a Kew Cottages Property Development contract between the Victorian Government and NSW based Developer Walker Corporation.

The Parliamentary Inquiry endorsed the Kew Cottages Coalition proposal for the establishment of a Family Support and Respite Care Centre for Intellectually Disabled Victorians.

The Ombudsman is expected to report to Parliament in 2010.
