“Dangerously high levels of mercury have been detected in hair samples taken from residents of Taiji, Japan, and while the Japanese government claims that there is no indication of Minamata disease, which is caused by methyl mercury poisoning from seafood, reports indicate that the authorities suspiciously did not conduct fundamental tests for the disease…officials from Japan’s National Institute for Minamata Disease (NIMD) might be attempting to hide the severity and high frequency of mercury poisoning among the residents of whaling towns like Taiji, yet as we’ve learned from The Cove, the government has a vested interest in keeping quiet about the toxicity of dolphin meat sold to consumers.”

(Note: As a side note for those who like to read the Descriptions…I think that virtually all meat is toxic in some way. It’s a personal choice in the end, we should educate ourselves as to many the differences between maintaining a carnivorous diet and a vegetarian one, including negative effects to environment (earth, air, and water), public and personal health, and earth’s overall harmony.)

Love it !
Thanks Winding Vines! I recommend seeing the documentary “The Cove”…if you have a strong stomach. Films like that should be required viewing in high schools in my opinion, if only to keep the discussion alive regarding cultural differences, conservation, etc.

I actually have seen the cove and I keep up to date with them on my facebook page, Vote for them for awards ect. I think it’s a discrace the things that can go on without anybody knowing. It’s great that some people can be brave enough to try to change it.
