I’ve had a camera by my side since I was 16 years old….I was a creative student lost in a world of academics… my teachers always said I excelled at being artsy. I never knew what that meant until I met my mentor and idol, Miss Linda Chiaravillotti. The moment I met her, I knew what my talent was and so did she.

I spent most of my spares and free time in the dark room during my days at high school. While my friends sat in the caf with their noses in books and studying for tests, I spent my time with Miss C in the dark room. She pushed, guided and nudged me along helping me discover my passion for capturing life through the lens of a camera. I couldn’t tell you the names of the faces in my text books but I could tell you what aperture setting was needed to capture the best image. I used my father’s Praktica camera which was the top of the line when he purchased it in 1968 when he was a young man discovering his own love for photography.

The world lost Miss Chiaravillotti in March 2009 and it truly is a loss to the world. Both those who knew her and those who didn’t. Not only was she my mentor, after high school she became my friend.

In early 1999 my first muse was born. Her name is Alison and she is my favourite subject to photograph. Even as we approach her 14th birthday, she’s just as comfortable in front of the camera as she ever was.

In 2010, my second favourite subject to photograph entered the world with flashbulbs ablaze! My niece, Cassidy. Her first picture was captured at only a few seconds old. I’m not sure she knows what I look like without a camera plastered to my face.

Although I’ve been taking pictures forever, photography is still new to me and I have a lot to learn.

Everything and absolutely anything is fair game in my eyes…or I guess I should say through my viewfinder.
