Dilophosaurus was a bipedal carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the early to mid parts of the Jurassic period, around 180 million years ago.
Dilophosaurus’ main distinguishing feature was the two thin bony crests on its head, which were probably used for attracting a mate.
Dilophosaurus was about 6m long and about 1.5 m to the hip and weighed somewhere between 300kg to 500kg.
Fossils have been found mainly in Arizona, USA but another specimen has been found in China.
This was another dinosaur that featured in Jurassic Park, where it was given a frill around the neck and spat poison – not a likely scenario.

Cheers for that Angie, I think so too. Though I’m not sure I’d like to meet a real one this close up!
