Like A Mushroom

I am logged with the quitters
the losers, the cheaters,
and the never-trieders
in fact, I am their queen
a whole different, new breed that they fear
the Don’t-know-howers
we are a supreme and jealous breed
we hide our insecurities and boast about everything
we have skeletons in our closets
that we want to let out, but the key was lost long ago
we lounge while others work for us
and we deny affection to many because we are too proud
we have a short temper when someone questions our honesty
even if we are lying we convince our self it’s the truth
but we never blame, it’s not that we’re blaming you
we just think it’s your fault in every way possible
stomach and headaches are common
it gives us an excuse to complain and make everyone quiet
we don’t speak around the enemy
we give them a chance to slip up before we do
we always pay our dues and the dues of others
we have friends in high places and enemies everywhere else
we are OCD about being in a room alone
even though we hate excessive talking
we do everything for ourselves though others benefit from it
we enjoy morning jogs and strenuous work outs to stay thin
we never cry in front of the people we love
we enjoy loud music, drinking, and smoking with siblings
we have such a fast metabolism, we have to eat more just to satisfy ourselves
then we lose it all in a matter of hours
we’d rather be considered ‘lazy’ or ‘too cool’ rather than ‘weak’
we like to keep track of how many times we have sex with a person in a week
it matters to us because we like to keep track of everything
like what day my birthday is on this year, what ratio of dog food will last longer
and of course: is this relationship going anywhere or is it already dead
we enjoy coffee with our coca-cola and pretzels with our chocolate
we wear high heels only with longer skirts
we get piercings and tattoos because we enjoy expressing ourselves
no matter what, when we are right we’re right and when we’re wrong we’re right
we avoid fighting each other, because the fight would never end
and we monotone our entire life to keep focused
“Little books go on the bottom shelf, J.C. combs her hair before bed.”
We love children sincerely but couldn’t raise our own
We tend to recognize each other just by look or association
the same linger and lust in the eye
the same judgement that you automatically recognize as soon as it sweeps over you
because you realize you are doing the same thing to them
with an inconspicuous nod we give others our approval
and we unite to defeat those smaller, though we need no help with that
we destroy everyone mentally even just for fun
we are the ultimate life on earth in our won minds
and we are not afraid to open full assault
we linger still like a silent people
like a mushroom who will inherit the earth by morning
