The Day Before The End of The World

I remember when the world joined hands
Smiles filled our glasses on a marble table
A marble table stretched on miles and miles
And all the men and women and children
And the grandparents and aunts and uncles
The Nigerians and Polish and Australians and Dominicans
Sat down for one meal at one time

And we ate
We ate squash and apples and cocoa beans
We ate greens and tomatoes and olives
We ate mangoes and beans and berries

Then we got up, all of us together
And we danced, we danced round and round
And the sky was breaking up into a new day
Rain poured down warm on our heads
Our skins melted away
The black, the white, the straight, the gay
Dissolved into the climate and chained the world
And we were all kin

Mountains and trees sprang up
And buildings crashed down
Seas came up from the ground
A storm raged on around the whole world
But we all smiled because we knew it was out of our hands
Some of us made wings with our arms and flew away
While the others sang of freedom

The water swallowed up more and more of the earth
And we were blissfully surrounded
Blissfully given to chance
So we held hands, all together, all at once
The whole wide world
And jumped right in
