The grave of George Washington Gibson, founder of Cottonwood, Utah.
Born in Union County, SC, laid to rest in Grafton, Utah.
Grafton is now a “ghost town”, the cemetery one of the most photographed in the country. The town has been the setting for several western movies, including ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’.
The inscription reads:
George W. Washington Gibson
Born Union Co. S. Carolina June 17th 1800
Died August 17th 1871
Father! Thou will be missed in our circle
Left us for a better place
(last line illegible)
