I’ve had folks ask about my lighting and comment on the quality of light. Well, here is the answer… a south facing bay window.
But there is more to it… several environmental factors come into play as well: the time of day, the season, cloudy or sunny… and I have the freedom of placing my black background against any of the three windows. One of these years I’ll be able to afford new blinds and drapes and then watch out!
As far north as I am the angle of the sun changes dramatically between the winter and summer solstices. And the difference between a sunny day’s indirect light and the radiant ambient light of a cloudy day is very dramatic. I make use of reflective sunlight as well. If a beam of sunshine hits the floor or a wall I may either use that as an additional light source or scrim it out.
Light is what photography is about, for me. Ideally this window would be facing north and I’d be an offical “North Light” photographer.
I’m just a skinny old man and my body images are far more about light on human form than about me. As I often say, if I had models you’d be seeing a lot less of this old fart.
Anyway… there’s my explanation of the lighting I use.
And the pose? I just wanted to show that I can and do indeed do these types of poses on my tiptoes.
