She clutched at her chest with rigid fingers. A long, harsh wheeze tumbling from paling lips. The pain was overwhelming. Blinding her briefly. Who knew that such a small piece of metal could do so much damage…
A thick, crimson river dribbled and bubbled from under her top. Flowing over her trembling hands. She staggered backwards.
He stood there, his pasty features contorted into a cold, blast of fury, his right arm outstretched…
Slowly, gradually, her lips curled into a heartbreaking smile. A small chuckle, gargling from her throat, echoed around the room. “I never even considered that you could do something like this…I really thought I knew you…” she whispered, blood dripping down her chin. “That you were better than this…”
He chocked back an abrupt, spiteful laugh. The strange sound surrounding her.
“I suppose I was wrong, huh?” Hot tears slid down her face, dripping from distressed eyes.
Her petite body fell backwards, suddenly bereft of strength, her feet dragging against the rough carpet beneath. With a dull thud, her back connected with the cold stonewall behind her.
Spluttering weakly, she sank to the ground. Questions and memories flashing behind her eyes.
Why? Why had he done this? The betray she felt was devastating and possibly hurt her most of all.
She had given him her all. He was her everything. Her whole world. Every move, every breath, every heart beat had been for him. Only for him.
Spasms of pain jolted through her as she tried to breathe. Blood pouring from parted lips.
She lay there, drowning in herself, her eyelids closing heavily. Turning everything to black…
Before everything stopped. Before she was no more, she heard one word. Spoken from her lovers lips as she drifted into nothing…
A little short story I found.
