The next Featured Member of ADAWG is an artist that exhibits a perfect example of a wonderful blending of digital art and writing to form a masterpiece! We are so proud to be able to show off the works and life of Assef Al-Jundi ! We have admired his versatile, beautifully tasteful and powerfully enlightening images and writing for several months now…so here is your chance to get more acquainted with this fabulous writer/artist…
Assef Al-Jundi

I am excitedly surprised, and very honored to get the chance to have my work so prominently featured in (ADAWG), a group that I felt was a perfect fit for what I do from my very start at RB.
I have been writing poetry for over 25 years, but my experience with creating digital art is barely three years old.
I may note here that I painted with watercolors long before I started writing poetry. That was in high school. Something I stopped doing after starting college. Talk about going full-circle!

A Definition I Can Embrace

What started me doing digital art and photography?
In 2005 I was part of a project done by the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center in San Antonio, Texas. They had a photography exhibit commissioned by The Nature Conservancy, and wanted to do a book, pairing the photographs and poems inspired by them, to promote it nationally. The result was a beautiful book titled “The Last Great Places of Texas”. Ten of my poems were included.

Primed

I am primed
for a good time

Made my peace
with the Holy Ghost

Turned on to love
and nothing else

I am weightless
in contemplation

Set to stay
and face the music

It is just a question
of time…

OK, so where does digital art come in?
After the book came out, I wanted to post my poems and the photographs on my (MySpace) blog. I managed to get permission from a couple of the photographers, but was having a hard time getting hold of the rest.
Rather than continuing to get frustrated, I got really excited when this idea came to me: “why don’t I create something myself that would compliment the poems I want to post?”.
As they say, the rest is history.

Monks

I have the photographers I could not get hold of to thank for this exciting new field of art, fun and inspiration.
If there is a “message” to our work, and a lot of the work I see on RB, it is to show how beautiful awakening is. Our deeper thrust is a desire to see our whole world, all of humanity, embrace this awakening, our collective and individual destiny.

ADAWG is excited and proud to spotlight another amazing artist! Come along and get to know Drew with us, ArtByDrew . Drew is a well-rounded and extremely talented artist. His knowledge of art and the varying methods used to create it make his gallery a beautiful journey to explore. The words Drew writes to accompany his art are as fantastic as the art. He is expressive, spiritually enlightening and splendidly entertaining. Drew’s work is a wonderful example of the voyage we are all on, where the written word meets the digital abstract image…to produce a mast piece of heART!

First, let me express my sincere appreciation that such a large group of very talented artists here consider my artwork on par with their own wonderful artworks. This is more flattering to me than an artwork of mine being hung in the Louvre! So a bit about what makes me tick, so you can get to know me better.

I am an artist, a photographer, a writer, a musician, a composer, a craftsman, a designer, and a programmer. I have been recognized for various works in all of these areas over the last half century. The most meaningful recognition to date though has been from my artist friends here at Redbubble. Thank you all for that precious gift.

Urban Sprawl

My wonderful parents met in art school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada during the 1940’s, and soon immigrated to the USA shortly after getting married. I was born in the US, while my parents were both still Canadian citizens awaiting their US citizenship. This gave me dual citizenship, although I think of myself more as a citizen of the world, as when you look down at earth from space there are no borders or countries.

I started working with my father in his photographic business at the young age of 6, and can fondly remember the step stool I would drag around the darkroom so I could reach over the top of the large processing tanks to soup prints. I worked on and off in the family business for 35 years, gaining knowledge and experience in every aspect of photography from shoots, to darkroom, to mounting and framing. I was so fortunate to have my father and mother as my teachers, and I have learned more from them than any university course has ever offered me.

I won my first art competition when I was a freshman in high school, an abstract painting of a self-portrait of myself. To this day it still hangs on the wall of my parents home. I have also had my artworks and writings featured in many prominent publications and magazines over the years.

I currently live in the coastal mountains near Florence, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest with my beautiful wife, Deanna. I have seven wonderful children ( 3 mine and 4 hers, but we always treat them as ours ). If you think the Brady Bunch had a rough household, you should have seen ours when the kids were younger and all at home!! They are all great kids, and I’m proud of every single one of them. I have artworks in my gallery of most of my family, and plan on having the rest of them there very soon.

Solar Flowered

I love the tremendous power of computers that let me craft a whole new spectrum of art and music that were not available during my parents generation, and continue to explore ways of mixing the infinite forms of media that are the result of this technology. The successful and harmonious merging of the left and right brain. I have just recently begun writing my own scripts for my fractal artworks, and this has opened up infinite and exciting possibilities in that genre. I savor exploration and always have.

My inspiration for my artworks always comes as a surprise, as it is usually culled from something that really has me think. If I really ponder something that comes across my thoughts, then it usually will result in an artwork of some type. I really enjoy doing artwork that represents something that a great deal of us think about, yet never verbalize. A common thread of what we all my be really thinking on any subject, yet never externalize those thoughts of feelings due to a plethora of individual reasons. This has the effect of really connecting with the viewer… something shared without ever being spoken.
Recycled Classic

I love to write a poem to accompany each artwork, as they compliment each other and give the viewer a better feel for the inspiration I feel when I create the artwork. I love the symbolism in this approach, that the two make for a greater whole together, than either of them would on their own. Think of this like the love between a couple, and the things they achieve together are always greater than they could achieve alone.

I also have a great deal of photography that I have yet to get on my bubble gallery. Most of this is from the old school ‘film’ days of photography, so once I have the equipment to adequately scan my old negatives I will be posting these as well. I still need to get a good digital camera for my newer photographic endeavors, and as soon I can swing a Nikon or Canon I will be flooding my gallery with both photos and composite artworks using my photos. Love to mix it up and experiment!!
Star Dance

Other than that, I’m pretty much just a easy going soul that appreciates the simpler things that life has to offer, as it is the simpler things that award us our greatest joys in life. Art is my personal therapist and lightens the load that the world puts on my shoulders. It’s also much cheaper than a therapist LOL! When I create, the world around me dissolves and I can live for those moments in beauty and peace. Art, and my family’s love, is the balance that makes my life happy and comfortable. You are all part of that family as well!!

Now that I have probably bored you to tears with this mini-bio, I hope that I can continue to excite your minds, souls, and spirits with my artwork and writing!

Peace, love, and happiness to all of you, and thank you again for your wonderful and ongoing support of my artwork.

Drew

I cannot do the kind of art you do, Carlotta and it my pleasure to view these pieces of art that you have created. I am learning that there is more in art then just the visual. There is the intent of the artist and the feelings that a piece of art gives the viewer. Both of these are what makes each piece of art unique. When I look at your pieces, Carlotta, I am drawn mostly to a feeling of joy and contentment. Your talent for the subtle shapes and colors that blend together so well have given me much to feel good about. If a piece of art can do that for me, imagine the impact from hundreds of views! Your kind and gracious manner in which you offer your works and your comments on other artists pieces shows me the kind of person you are. You are an artist who continues to blossom in my eyes not only through your art by also in my heart.

Congratulations on being the feature member, Carlotta Peacock! It is our pleasure, most certainly.

The woman that ADAWG now has the belated pleasure of showing off to you, has been on the list for people who belong to be in the spot light for a very long time now, Carlotta Peacock ! Her work is filled with all the passion of a vibrent loving spirit…and sultry enough to know the beauty that must have been behind the creation. We know you will enjoy getting to this fantastic artist better!

I feel so honoured, I am an Aussie, born in Wollongong NSW, raised in a country town called Walcha, I have 3 grown kids, 5 grand babies with one on the way, I have never been to an art lesson, so all my work is trial by error.

I stumbled on RB while nursing a broken ankle last February and since them have became quiet addicted to the site and the programs I use. These are corelpss, adobe elements 6, ultra fractal 5, and a new one that I just got called Xenodream, which is amazing, if you love fractals than this is the program to check out!

I now live in an isolated place called Yarrowitch NSW, which is located on the Oxley Highway heading towards Port Maquarie on the north coast. I love gardening and have 100 roses alone in my garden along with apple, orange, peach, and lemon trees.

I would like to think that my art has evolved since I have been on RB. I have made numerous friends which I adore, thank you all for checking me out, love and peace,

Carlotta Peacock

It is very obvious to see your excitement for abstract art. Being exposed to it as a young age and going to many different museums has certainly paid off! Though I may not always grasp the concept of the artist’s intent, I do appreciate the color, form and design that make up abstract artistry. It always appears to me to have some kind of movement to it and the pieces you have selected here certainly show that! Thank you, Devalyn for allowing us a glimpse into your world.

Hello ADAWG! Linaji, Judi and I would like to introduce you to a beautiful intelligent woman, whose art is filled with all the magic and light that this digital world has to offer, Devalyn Marshall. Devalyn’s gallery is an energetic and spirit filled journey that is sure to make you say WOW many times….her writing is clear and precise with a wonderful message for all to enjoy and absorb. We are certain you will enjoy getting to know this terrific artist and writer a bit more…

Devalyn Marshall

During my childhood years I loved watercolor painting, charcoal drawing and ceramics. Then like so many of us, once we are adults we forget about the simple things that made us happy. So after working many years in the IT field as what my family and friends called a workaholic, I was asked by a new boss what I did to have fun away from work. I could not think of anything to say. I went home that night and really thought about what made me happy and then I remembered my childhood and the love and fun my family gave to me and continues to give to me.
That same year I received a camera and discovered how much fun it was to take pictures. Around the same time I discovered Photoshop and went crazy digitally altering my photos. I fell in love with the color options available in Photoshop and was having so much fun.

Blue Velvet (digitally altered my photo of a white orchid)

I have always loved abstract art. I was very fortunate as a kid to have had the opportunity to live in many different countries and visit many museums. I was always attracted to abstract art and spent most of my time in the museums viewing the abstract art pieces. So when I starting looking on art websites and saw some amazing abstract art, I started creating my own abstract digital art. Then my family and friends wanted copies of my work and that gave me confidence to put my work on the web.

Fire House (digitally altered abstract piece)

Fractal art took me by storm. I have so much fun with fractals. The more you work with a fractal the more surprises you get, like opening up wrapped gifts. However I find that I cannot leave a beautiful fractal alone, I always have to use other programs to alter the fractals more. Sometimes I produce a piece I really like. But I look forward to using more cool software to express myself in art.
Blue Mosi-Oa-Tunya3 (fractal art piece)

I cannot express how much Redbubble means to me. It makes my day when I receive kind comments from so many great RB artists. I wish I had more time in the day to view all of the amazing artists on this site. Thank you Terilee and Linaji.
Regards Devalyn
