Marco Britti

PROFILE:

Born in Rome( Italy)on the 11/11/1962. left Italy in 1985 to spend a year in Lonodn.Back in Italy a year and half later will decide to go back to London and will stay there for the next five years. In 1992 came to Australia where he still lives.
Self taught in drawing and painting

My drawings date back to 1982 but during my childhood I did hundreds of drawings and comic books, but all that is being lost,(I miss that stuff!).
Always drew alot but I don`t know if I “really” loved it.I used draw all scenes from movies such as Mobi Dick, Bhen Hur.Sometimes I would draw just for the”attention” to hear people saying how good I was..Always drew”periodically” and that`s one of the reason why i think ,me and art ,are still searching for one another. At the age of twenty after a few years without a single scketch I came across a tiny picture on a magazine of a drawrng which I thought ,it was just a cool picture. What fascinated me of that picture was its semplicty and yet very realistic. I said to my self : “I can do that! ” So the day after, while I was at work at my brother workshop I started drawring on the walls of his workshop. Drew a couple of pictures, of people playng the drums, I was pleased with the result, but not “impressed” I knew though ,I was close to my target. The two pictures on the wall were quite large and the chork on the wall was quite intesevely worked in . My brother was not at the shop when I drew the two pictures but when he came back, quite”strangely” even after a couple of days he still did not notice the two large pictures on the wall! I gues he was just too busy thinking. Somebodyelse but did notice my pictures on the wall, a sort of business friend and and his wife. They loved them! So they asked me to do something similar for them.
That day was the first time I felt differentlt about my drawing, for the first time I was asked to draw someting so that it would be hung.
So somebody liked my drawings but, did ” I “like my drawings? “I” had to be the one to be impressed before anyonelse, for something, to, really change in me.
A week later I will make two large pencil drawrings, one for the “buisiness friend and his wife ” and the other to keep. This time everybody was impressed even my brother! And yes “I” was too.

For the following eight years though, disappontedly I would hardly draw at all! But the ice was cracket and all I would need now was a good state of mind to get started. Slowly while still in London I started sketching again on my little notebook doing small pen drawrings, some of these drawings will turn out nice enough for me to gain the confidence and enthusiasm that I needed.
Here in Australia feeling I guess, lonley and too farway I will starte, ( with my ink pen) to draw more regularly and then…….”intensevely” until I thougth…..:”this feels good! The following three years at home before work and on days off work, I will be drawing.
It felt “good” but for almost 5 years but some reason I guess not good enough as I took a few extensive breaks from art.
Two years almost without a picture followed but I knew that with art I was`nt done yet. I kept looking at my stuff like from time to time ,just to pass the time and but still would`nt pick up a pen and draw again . One day out of the blue I picked up one of my old unfinshed drawrings got my pastels out and there I was two hours later I had a brand new drawing to add to my collection, and so as if I never stoped there I was “drawing again”
This time but, was a little different, as new skills came to me and with that I felt recharged and happy to do something in a different way. The new “me” was in fact an “editing machine”In the follwing three or four months I will change most of my old drawings.

Well this is my story so far, drawing or art in general, keeps entering and exiting me and every time , has a different “taste”and I like this, but I think I`m still waiting for a new state of mind to experience this thing called “Art”in full . I still don`t feel “totally”embraced by it but I`m happy with the way me and art are going along in this hot and cold tipe of relation.
Today after some 500 pen drawrings, 100 pastels, 50 pencils, 30 oils, some clay scolptures, and more stuff! It feels as if I`ve only….. scratched the surface of it all.
I hope my effort will be something you will remember in a pleasant way.

Marco’s drawings and paintings carry their own undeniable style. Marco is self taught and draws from his memories rather than creating from another picture or object. The colours he uses are bright and convey much emotion. This together with the expressions he is able to convey in his subject matter produce a very strong message to its audience.

Marco’s work seems to be inspired by the cubist Picasso and I can see a touch of Modigliani in his work.
