Artist Statement

I’m passionate about the act of making art, about capturing the deep meaning expressed in a single glance, or the effects of atmosphere that can color emotions.

All my life I have been fortunate to live with musicians. Music and what I listen to while I paint have a significant power over my process, in what inspires me, in the rhythmic motion of the strokes, in the feelings incorporated into a piece, and is even reflected in the popular song titles of the finished works. I’m also influenced by the paradox of tragic joy that is my Irish heritage.

I enjoy being in touch with the work, and use my fingers to push the pure pigments of pastels or graphite over the paper surface. I choose to depict contemporary places and people, but my goal is to use skill and imagination to produce works that portray the more enduring qualities of the world and of the human condition.

In my Words

Alice is a master when it comes to drawing and painting with pastels, this is self-evident when browsing through her portfolio. Her work is unique as she can capture a moment in time, a certain gesture or emotion. She does this by knowing her subject matter intimately. Her success was rewarded recently when she was included in the publication In the Moment produced by RedBubble.

Realist indeed – but so full of character

I’ve always liked Alice’s work. I first found it when I used stumbleupon. Alice has been on my favourites list in there for many years (I’m know as Krun in that stumbleupon land). It’s good to see her here too. She truly is great at hyper-realism. Images so alive they go beyond the photographic and into something far more extraordinary.

Darn it, you all have gone and made me cry. Really, this community is the best I’ve ever found on the web. I have to go recover my sensitive little artist self now. sniffle sniffle. Thanks! xx ~ Alice
