.................................................................................................................. In my work, I strive to capture the character and feel of a person or place. Light, shape, and personality catch my eye. I enjoy the difficulty that Watercolour undoubtedly provides and suppose that it will never quite be conquered. So the challenge is set and I cant resist it! Contact Lara .................................................................................................................. |

.................................................................................................................. Linda Ridpath (UK), Gum Trees , Acrylics on Canvas My art is a little like myself, I paint in very different ways, depending on how i feel when i stand in front of the canvas…. Some days I mix up a few colours and make a bold brush stroke and then it develops and has a life of its own. Some times an idea will have developed in my head and when its ready it will emerge on a canvas, I never do sketches or plans!!! Much like my days, depending on how i feel, I could either get up and go for a long walk and daydream or buckle down to some serious housework and cooking! One thing I must say is that redbubble has been such a positive force in my art and I cannot underestimate how much of an effect being part of this lovely community has had on my art, technically, creatively and I am encouraged to produce more and better, we are so lucky to be part of this wonderful redbubble. .................................................................................................................. Itassone (AUS), Lady Down Lane, Oil on canvas – 50×60cm – private collection Lady Down Lane was the first serious realist piece that I completed. The level of detail in the painting required copious amounts of time and patience which was something I really had to work on early in my painting career. I connected with the image in many ways which is why I was able to dedicate so much time to getting it to a state I was happy with. It’s an image of intrigue(white), danger(black) and nonchalance(grey). For a long time the painting was a reminder to myself, that hey maybe I can paint. In some ways it still is. ........................................................................................................... This idea of creating work that is a commentary on another artist’s work has always intrigued me and this painting has been my most successful attempt. I tried to approach the painting with the same traditional approach Vermeer used to create his painting. Contact thepaintedsoul |

.................................................................................................................. Aerial Landscape is a bit different from my usual work as I did not start it from a particular one of my aerial photos, but did it without visual reference, just as an impression of one of my flights over an arid landscape. |

.............................................................................................................. This painting is a tribute to all women who have struggled with or watched loved ones suffer with the horrors of breast cancer. It shows one womans strength and dignity as she beautifies her masectomy scar and the loss of her breast and nipple by defiantly replacing them with a pretty pink cherry blossom and a dragonfly tattoo which signify beauty and illusion. |

...................................................................... Deb Milligan (AUS), Slight, Acrylic on canvas 250mm x 250mm This work is one of a number that make up a larger piece called ‘The Deepening’. The complete work speaks of those moments in time when we catch a glimpse of ourselves beyond the roles that we inhabit in the ‘real’ world and so gradually deepen into a softly-growing awareness of who we actually are. ................................................................................................................. Lynda Robinson (AUS), ‘Portrait of Tom Tehan’, Pastel on sanded paper (Colourfix burgundy). 35cm x 50cm I find the pastel medium ideal for portraiture due to the level of control possible and the ability to blend colours to obtain near perfect flesh tones. I am particularly drawn to ‘mature’ faces with the ‘nooks and crannies’ that life has etched upon them which gives character and appeal to a portrait. Pastel is an under rated medium. The colours of a pastel painting will be the same in a thousand years, whereas watercolour may fade and oil can discolour with age. Contact Lynda Robinson |

.............................................................................................................. Pucci Ferraris (ITA), copy of Rachel Ruysch – oil on board 42×50 cm. 2004 Creating copies gives me the greatest satisfaction because I have to try and put myself into the mind of the artist. In doing so I come to understand his difficulties and how he overcame them. .............................................................................................................. |

.............................................................................................................. Cate Townsend (AUS), Metamorphosis – Acrylic painting Metamorphisis is an acrylic painting on board built up in layers using a medium. I have used cool colours to emphasize the metamorphisis that occures primarily in nature. The original concept was derived from a series of charcoal and graphite drawings viewed, from many different angles, of a stool wrapped in paper and tied with string. “The stool is symbolic of the creature inside the cocoon… and the struggle it had to push the paper aside, or even eat it’s way through….and there on the other side, having unwrapped it’s fetters… is a whole new world, a brand new day…which is in fact the gift we are given as our eyes open each morning…a new chance, a new slate upon which to write.”.A direct quote from Karin Taylor. .............................................................................................................. |

.................................................................................................................. Ken Powers (US), Gears The painting is done using 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The original piece is 9.75” x 13.75” in size. My “Gears” painting exemplifies several of the key elements of my style. I choose to accentuate the beauty of the ugly mundane objects that we see in our everyday lives but which we choose to ignore. I love to explore the interaction of shadows and highlights surrounding these objects and occasionally find them as interesting as the subjects themselves. This particular painting is interesting in that each gear revolves independently and yet must rely on the others to operate. This concept almost parallels the workings of our very existence. .................................................................................................................. Linda Apple (US) Three Sunflowers – people painting, oil on canvas – 6”x 8 “ This painting is one from my ongoing series Artful Moments – that began a few years ago after one of my many visits to the art museum. I realized that I was looking at the people looking at the art, more than the art. I started sketches of people and also candid photos and was amazed at the endless variety of ways that people view the art. It can be very personal, shy, very serious etc. I also enjoy adding a bit of humor to top it off! .................................................................................................................. ‘I am attempting to create a sense of the Sublime, a personal response to the power and chaos of nature, the instablity of our planet demonstrating our vulnerability as a race. Passion, imagination and experimentation are key to my practise. I work fairly large because I like to become immersed within the work while I am painting and I want the viewer to feel immersed as well’. Contact Rebecca |

.................................................................................................................. Janis Zroback (CAN) Still Life with Wellingtons, Watercolour on Saunders Waterford Rough paper… “Still Life with Wellingtons” is one of my larger works…it has all the components of my favourite style of painting; lots of texture, trompe l’oeil, and a touch of surrealism in the subject matter…the shiny boots contrast nicely with the rough wood and the rusty nail…the whole is totally imagined… Contact Janis .................................................................................................................. |

.................................................................................................................. Lorenzo Castello (ITA) Flowers and apples, oil on board 50×70cm This work is inspired by the work of Paul Cézanne. “My struggle is to preserve that abstract flash-like something you caught out of the corner of your eye, but in the picture you can look at it directly. It is a very elusive thing.” Contact Lorenzo .................................................................................................................. |

Johdie Fairweather (AUS), Cello Acrylic on canvas. With all my work, regardless of the style or medium my main goal is to create an atmosphere. Mick Kupresanin (AUS), Stevenson Falls Oil painting ’’An oil painting of Stevensons Falls was painted a few months before the bushfires. It was amazing at the time for there was moisture everywhere..on rocks,on foliage, on trees, under foot, even moisture in the air…how can this beauty burn?..But it did. The bush will recover quickly but peoples lives a lot slower.” |
