My favourite tree 2 by Basia McAuley
This is the same favourite tree that I already have a photo of but this time I actually stopped the car to take this photo! I not only find this tree fascinating but in a way, quite intimidating due to it’s awesome size, age and mystery. With this treatment, I have endeavoured to capture some of the age, mystery and sometimes darkness of this old tree.

Supper by maka1967
Taken last early winter on film. Traditionally, high steps and stone or bronze carvings of beasts of prey are symbols of power in China. In ancient society, government offices had high steps (No concept of “barrier-free” then.) and placed carvings of beast guards beside their doors. Today this is still a convention to a great extent. Even many banks and stores practise it. The power culture still prevails. This scene, besides its sadness, reminded me the traditional Chinese phrase to describe prisoner, literally “captive under steps”.

The Golden Triangle...Victoria Australia by judygal
This is a compilation that I have put together to create an image to portray an area of Victoria Australia, which is known as the Golden Triangle the gold Nugget that is depicted here is called The Hand of Faith, which was 1 of the largest found near Wedderburn which is one of the points of the triangle. This area was known for the large number of Gold Nuggets that have been discovered there through the years since the Gold Rush days. / I also have this image in mind as a group image for a group idea that I am submitting to RB. I would probably call the group Gold Rush Towns. For images of the many gold mining towns in Australia and abroad and anything else relating to the Gold Rush era, including modern day theme parks of gold mining towns. Let me know what you think and if there is any interest in it.

Old man with pipe by eramophla
I did not take this photograph. It is one that I have in my family history collection that I have altered by playing around with aged effects and sepia tones. The photo is of my great great great grandfather, William Munson Mills. As soon as I received the photograph I fell in love with it, and that is why I want to share it with everyone. I did a charcoal drawing of it last year, entered it into a local art sale and someone bought it. I did not take a photo of my drawing before the sale however, so now I play around with it in my photo program, trying different things. William Munson Mills was the son of a veterinarian who is beleived to have looked after the horses at the battle of Waterloo. Because of his experiences in the war, William’s father did not want him to become a soldier, but he defied him and did so. He served in the Sihk Wars in India during the 1850s, where he was blinded in one eye, and escorted the Koor Or Nor diamond (now in Queen Victoria’s old crown) back to England. On returning to England, he took up his old job as a shipwright, earning only 7 shillings a week. On this income, he married and had 14 children. In 1875, he and his family moved to Australia, where he lived until the ripe old age of 94.
About This Group
Out of the past is designed for works that have that old world, vintage feel to them. You will find examples of the type of work this group is looking for in the featured pieces above.
Works submitted to this group must be presented in a medium that portrays another era, or a vintage feel. Please note just because it is old, rusty, black and white, or sepia does not mean that it will be accepted into the group. I am looking for works that give the viewer a feeling of looking into the past, not looking at something from the past. Basically, if it has rust on it, it does not belong in this group.
There will be a monthly group contest. Winners of this contest will be featured in the featured work on the overview page, they will also become the avatar for the month, and they will win a free listing for their redbubble site on an online directory that I have created. There may also be other prizes as well. You will be informed as to the prize when the monthly Contest announcement goes out.
One week prior to the end of the Contest the group will be closed to any new entries so that voting can take place by anonymous judges.
All works will be removed from the group at the end of each month to start a fresh contest and to make it easier to view all works submitted.
If you have any questions about the guidelines please contact the moderator.
Thanks
Alexia Wardell
