Sometimes It's Better to Rust - HDR by Bryan Peterson
I re-worked the original raw image into a HDR image using a program called Dynamic-Photo HDR then did the final processing in Photoshop cs2. I am not terribly fond of many of the garish images that are sometimes porduced in the HDR process but the concept of using multiple exposures to capture a dynamic range closer to what we normally see is very intriguing to me. I have tried to create such an image in this case. / The image was captured in Shaniko, Oregon located on Hwy 97 in the north central portion of the state.

"Lynn and His 1949 Packard" by Lynn Bawden
The year here is 1954. I just was released from active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard. There is a much more powerful engine in this car. I replaced the standard straight eight Packard engine with a nine main bearing straight eight Packard engine. The results were quite impressive…Lynn

Just a little more about me / As far as programs used I used DAZ STUDIO (free), and photoshop. / I also use 3D studio max, Maya, Lightwave, Adobe illustrator, after effects, and premier. I went to school for Broadcast production technology, 3d art, and animation, photo journalisim also both classical, and modern art. / So 4 + years of school, and that is where all the fun started. / / I have had Some of my graphics used on local tv. / I have had some of my photos published in the local paper and 1 photo was published in a $100.00 coffee table book , and two more of my photos will be published this year in the same type of book. For the last 4 years I have been producing, and editing living tributes,Sports, and sports history videos for the Tacoma athletic commission. I got seriously injured in 2000 then after having my shoulder torn out of socket and the operation to fix that in 2002. Then in 2004 a young driver hit my wife and I head on and it nearly killed me. That put me through two more operations on my wrist pins and bone fusion. Then in 2006 I found out that I had cancer for at least 1 year maybe 2. / So 3 operations for that and of course cancer treatment. Then two months ago I went through another operation where they went through the front of my neck and replaced the disk between C-5 C-6 vertebres. They took the disk out and replaced it with a synthetic one then added a metal plate and 4 screws ( maybee now I got my head screwed on right LOL ). Now I just found out the new disk is cracked and they may have to do it over again. / I also have to do cancer treatment again all of next month round two because it came back. I also am permently disabled as of 2005. / My photos, art, and video as well as my wife, and my 5 kids keep me going. From the day I joined redbubble I started getting comments on my work and that helps me so much. I am lucky to be a part of this very large family of artist. This is not being posted for pitty, but for more info about me. Pitty is the last thing I need. This world wide art community is a wonderful, and positive creation, and thanks to the creators that had a vision, and made a reality. So thank all of you for taking the time to look and for posting the comments, and art that I so look forward to each, and every day Thank you all. / Michael Beers

Pineapple Express by grouchyolhippie
This shot was captured just north of Florence, Oregon not far from where I live. In the Pacific Northwest we often get a weather condition that is nicknamed the ‘Pineapple Express’, where heavy precipitation is carried across the Pacific ocean in a bee-line from the Hawaiian islands region. This shows a perfect example of this weather phenomenon, where you can easily see it streaming towards the coast. / / I loved the contrast between the beautiful sunny day to the east, with the promise of heavy rain just to the west. The multitude of hues bounced across the ocean waters was beautiful, and it was one of those times where you just happened to be in the right place at the right time and lucky to have the camera handy. Glad I could capture the moment to share with you all! / / Peace & Love, / / Grouchy ;) /
About This Group
The purpose of the group is to provide a place for Northwesterners (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California…) to share their artwork and their expertise. The group would also arrange for local photoshoots, giving everyone a chance to meet local members.
Group rules are:
- Strict limit to 2 uploads per day.
- No limit on overall numbers of art.
- All types of artwork is welcome, including written works (written works will go into the writing section).
- Artwork must not trigger any obscenity filters
- Journals are limited to communication between members. No journals on general “thank you”, “I just hit a 1000 views”, “I just sold another card” etc
Photoshoots and local meetings TBA
- Posted artwork MUST be finished artwork. No snapshots. All photos must be edited before uploading to the group.
These are the general guidelines for posting artwork. No artwork will be allowed to be posted if they meet the following criteria:
1. Poor focus, blurring, motion artifact (unless the motion artifact is done to imply motion). .
2. Poor lighting, over or under exposure, blown out whites or darks, uneven lighting (ie- caused by flash that is on the top of a camera, or harsh shadows), black in the background (also caused by not using flash correctly). Black in the background is only ok if it was done on purpose to add to the composition, such as in Macro shots or in some portraits.
3. Distracting objects in the photo that don’t add to the composition. Examples are snapshots of pets inside a house or car, where clutter and distracting objects are everywhere. Also, street photos with a lot of cars or people in them. that don’t add to the central theme. The solution to this is get in close when taking the picture and be very aware of what is in the viewfinder. Cropping will also help out in some cases.
4. Crooked horizons (exception: when using a crooked horizon as an artistic statement, usually this is an exaggerated crooked angle).
5. Grainy images
6. No snapshots please
7. Too far away from the main subject (this can be fixed by cropping)
8. If the image is not safe for workplace viewing, it does not belong in this group.
9. No artwork of nature that looks like a face or an object, unless it is a finished, processed photo that is done artfully
10. No pictures of other peoples art, no matter how funny. The object of this group is to present your own work of art.
11. Photos that have been over manipulated in an editing program. These are photos that have had too many filters applied to them. (we have all done this, when first starting out with a new editing program)
12. Any photos that fall under the categories listed above, will be removed by the group moderators.
