The lighthouse commenced operation on July 10, 1860 it is made of brick, it was painted red in 1910 due to discoloration caused by humidity. It is 108 feet tall and has a circular stairway with 105 steps from the base of the tower to the lantern room The light itself is a first-order Fresnel lens manufactured in Paris by Henry-LePaute. The rotating lens flashes (burst of light when bulls-eye passes viewer’s line of vision) is 1.2 seconds, eclipses (darkens) 6.6 seconds, flashes 1.2 seconds, eclipses 21 seconds, and then repeats the cycle. The light can be viewed approximately 20 miles out at sea. / During the restoration work in 1999-2000, archaeologists uncovered shells and pottery fragments in excavations made on the hill near the base of the tower. The artifacts are believed to be remnants of a Native American colony, dating from around 700 AD. This Image was Captured in Jupiter, Florida / using a Canon 450D / Focal Length 123mm / Exposure Time 1/400s / Aperture F9 / ISO-100 / then edited using photo software a fractalius filter was also used. / Here is another image of this lighthouse / / For loose prints (8×10 etc) visit My Store / Thank You for Visiting my Gallery / Here are more places to find my work / / / Gallery Maintained by envelope150 / © COPYRIGHT NOTICE: NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO REPRODUCE OR DOWNLOAD ANY IMAGES WITHOUT MY EXPRESSED WRITTEN PERMISSION.THESE IMAGES ARE NOT TO BE USED IN ADVERTISING OR MASS REPRODUCTION OF ANY FORM.

November 2007 found the island of Martha’s Vineyard struck by Tropical Storm Noel. 75 MPH winds were recorded at the harbor in Vineyard Haven. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take some pictures of my own. I had to use the wall of a building as support against the wind and rain to get this shot. By the way, this is really in color, not B&W. Nikon D200 with 18 – 200 VR Lens, handheld, Program Mode. Featured in the “All Water In Motion” Group – 11/20/09.

In Bodrum, Turkey, these masts huddled together as their hulls nudged against one another, bumpers apart. The Turkish colors flapped above.
This was taken straight after a particularly nasty storm at Mornington Harbour – This isolated child was more intent on fosiking in the sand rather than be caught up in the devastation.
An infrared experiment. Critique away people ;0)
“Yacht Row” was shot in St.Petersburg, Florida. This was an HDR image, shot raw at +1,0, -1, postprocessed in Photomatix, then Topazed Simple, then Textured for the final image. Still debating on adjusting the curves to lighten it up some.

A freshly painted boat.
This is the fishing vessel, Ocean Cloud. This boat is fishing for the company I work for, Walcan Seafood Ltd. (should check out their website, www.walcanseafood.com. This boat is fishing in the middle of Port Hardy Bay, the most northern town on Vancouver Island, BC Canada. It’s seining for pilchards, the pilchard is small like a sardine. / We are offloading this boat later on today. It will be very a interesting offload, we have never offloaded pilchards before. / Always a first for everything ! :) / Hope you like it! / Taken with my DMC FZ-50, edited with ACDSee Imagery Program.

This shot of a steam pressure gauge was taken in the engine room of the sternwheeler (paddle steamer) S.S. Klondike, which is now a static tourist attraction in Whitehorse, capital of Canada’s Yukon. I actually had two cameras with me, with both my lenses, but chose to use the longer of the two lenses for this shot, because depth of field was so important to the way I visualised the image. The light wasn’t great. It was murky and raining, and this shot was taken in the mid-section of the interior of the historic vessel. That’s precisely why I shot it from side-on, rather than standing directly in front of it and obscuring what little light there was. The Klondike played a crucial part in transportation and re-supply during the gold rush and was a symbol of the subsequent prosperity in the province. I can only imagine how many crew members in the course of the vessel’s operational life must have trained their eyes on this gauge, to make sure their wood-burning ship was operating within the correct parameters. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K200D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F4.5, 1/90 sec, ISO 400, focal length 170mm. Golden Gate Bridge and Sailboats
This is an oil painting on canvas 81×66x4cms. Port Fairy is a beautiful coastal town in Victoria, Australia, where many people have a holiday house or go to stay. Holiday times, in particular summer holidays see many people enjoying this lovely place. The lighthouse is on an island there and is a favourite walking spot.
