November 8, 2009…Surprisingly warm sunday night in downtown Chicago and restaaurants had outdoor tables going. There is a restaurant just to the right of the image where I was standing. This couple stood up and for a moment they were discussing wheather they should take a cab or walk. Girl argued for a walk: “irresistible weather, it is so romantic…” and they slowly walked away as I was setting up my gear. “First date” thought crossed my mind. When I walked away, I started to whistle Sinatra’s “Strangers in the night”.
This was taken just after dawn on a very cold Winter morning. I usually do sunrises in the cold weather. I think the colder the weather is, the better the sunrise. I quite liked the timber pillars on this cottage’s porch and the old lamp outside. Now having checked with all the guide markers in PSP this image is straight! It is the lamp that is wonky! The crossroads at Coleford, Devon. Canon EOS 500D

As most of you know by now, we live in the quiet (at present) and delightful Indian ocean side township of Yanchep, some 55 kms north of Perth in Western Australia. The beaches are less than 5 minutes away in the car and I took this photo yesterday afternoon, (Friday 20 Nov) / The nearest red roof building you can see is a beachside cafe/kiosk (their fish and chips are great by the way!) / On the left – and out of shot – a large housing development is taking place and the eventual plans show that we can expect to see promenades, cafes, small hotels etc. It wont be our sleepy little Yanchep for much longer. / Camera Sony DSC R1. / 24-120 Carl Zeiss Vario Zonnar lens with cp filter / f11 at 1/250th second / hand held

Dubrovnik drenched by the morning sun. Shot Summer 2006, at 8 am, from the Old Town Walls, looking at the clocktower at the southern end of Stradun. One can see the extensive post-war repair work to the rooftops, and the difference between the origianl tiles, and the new regular ones. Dubrovnik has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1979. We are luckyenough to call this city our second home. Nikon D70s; Nikon 70-300mm lens; f/4.2; 1/2000sec; 75mm focal length.
The Leslie Log House was taken the Northwest Mississauga, Ontario., Canada. / This Log house was built in 1826 by John Leslie and his wife Esther Beatty who came to Upper Canada from Sutherland, Scotland in 1824. / This house was moved to it’s present location in May of 1994 to preserve it’s historical heritage. / I was told that this locaion will soon become another Historical Park in the City of Mississauga. / I took this photo in B&W and found it only fitting to give this image the treatment and processing to get the effect of the Master photographers in the period of approx. 1839 and on. / The processing took some time but I think I got the result I was looking for. ======================================= Taken with: Nikon EM. / Tripod mounted. / Full manual setting. / Nikon 36-73 zoom lens. / Hoya UV-(0) & Sepia tone lens filters stacked. / T-100 B&W film. / One exposure taken. / Negative scaned to disk. / Processing: Corel Paint shop ProX2
The Old Post Office was built from 1892 to 1899, and when completed was the largest office building and first building incorporating a steel frame in Washington, D.C. The building has had a notorious history beginning with the opening ceremonies when the Postmaster of Washington fell to his death down an elevator shaft. The building’s history as the main Post Office of Washington was cut short fifteen years after it opened when in 1914 it was decided to move the city’s main postal operation to a more centralized location in the District of Columbia. At that time the relatively new building was dubbed the “old” post office, a name that is still with it today nearly a century later. The most recognizable feature of the Old Post Office is its 315-foot high clock tower which makes the building the third tallest structure in Washington, behind the Washington Monument which is the tallest and then the United States Capitol. Today the Old Post Office is also the largest commercial building in the District. In addition to the clock tower, the building is well-known for its expansive interior atrium which is home to popular shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities. This is a photograph of the atrium’s high glass ceiling with the famous clock tower centered in the background. Source: Wikipedia Thank you to the group “Historic Places” for featuring this photograph. The Old Post Office has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. In the Norman Domesday book, Ecclesfield church was called Egglesfeld which means ’ church in a field.’ / There had been a church in Ecclesfield long before the Norman conquest of 1066. In saxon times it was the mother church of the huge moorland area of the parish of West Riding in Yorkshire covering 50 000 acres. / After the conquest, the church was given to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Wandrille near Rouen in Normandy. In the 1380’s, Richard the Second dissolved all foreign priories and gave the church to the Carthusian Priory of St. Anne in Coventry. / The church was eventually passed back into the ownership of the Lords of Hallamshire after the reformation during the reign of Henry the Eighth. / The present church is late medieval/early tudor….rebuilding started around 1478 during the reign of Edward the Fourth and was completed in 1500 when Henry the Seventh, the first of the Tudor dynasty was on the throne. The inside does retain some parts of the original Norman church.
Casa Loma , the former estate of Sir Henry Mill Pellatt, a prominent Toronto financier, industrialist and military man. An unabashed romantic, Sir Henry engaged the noted architect E. J. Lennox to help him realize a life-long dream – the creation of a “medieval” castle on the brow of a hill overlooking Toronto. Begun in 1911, it took 300 men nearly three years to comlete and cost $3,500,000 at that time. Sir Henry and his wife Lady Mary enjoyed Casa Loma for less than ten years before financial misfortune forced him to abandon his castle home. Owned by the City of Toronto and operated by the Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma since 1937. (Description copied from the visitors’ brochure) Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
