congratulations to th 3 winners…love the 3 pictures…..bravo….beautifull choise:)) |

congrats to all 3 winners , they are all beautifully done |

They were great choices! Its so difficult to go though so many great photos and make choices. Some of the groups have catagories. My first thought is that macros is a catagory in itself. But thats not really true. There are bugs and water and patterns etc. And of course, best over all. So, maybe rather than have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place we could establish catagories and choose from each with a top prise for best over all. |

how would you feel about a judged competition by moderators who are not in the macro group! members could tag submissions and have the judges pick the ten best then let the members vote on those??? |
excellant work from the 3 winners – stunning stuff indeed :) |
how about a competion forum in the group were folk submit what they feel to be their best shot – 1 each month – and then have a voting period for members to vote on their favorite. |
Submitting our best photo would cut down cut down on the number of photos and that would be helpful. Also, it would give us the best possible body of photos to choose from. Having moderators choose the top ten is something worth considering. People outside the group that have an understanding of photography and art would be more objective and we would still choose from the best of their choices, so the choice wouldn’t be entirely out of our hands. |

I was totally amazed to see that Alien Landing landed on the first place of the Macro competition. A big Thank You All for electing my shot as your favorite and congratulations to the other winners Ken and Narabia. Jo Beerens |

Congratulations Jo, Ken and Narabia! I am amazed at how many quality shots are in this group, amazing talent! In one of the groups I belong to they do a competition where a phrase is put up and then you have to submit a drawing that best exemplifies that phrase.. for example, “A face only a mother could love”, or “The grass is always greener”.... you get the idea… something like that might be fun to try with macro photography and would also get people out taking pics to get that shot! |

With Macros, subject matter is a little more limited. Flowers are great, but we are barely beyond the daffs and tulips here. The only bees and butterflies I have seen so far are the cabbage whites and and one bumble bee. Water, of course, is in a bundance. There is always studio work, but not everyone is setup for it. I think, maybe letting everyone choose their best work. since we all seem to have more specific areas of macro photography that we work in. More so than in other groups. |

Congratulations to the winners ! all three are awesome images ! |

Danielle, we are open to all ideas here. Thanks for a creative angle for us to think about. Cheers, James |
James, do you think we could do topics, like maybe colors or maybe circular or angular patterns in the ways that Danielle suggested? It wouldn’t have to be super macro work. |
We could even do wings or eyes. That would be interesting and could be from insects or birds or even human (eyes). |
all good ideas. RB has just informed me that we need to run a couple of “free” competitions before they will sport another gift voucher to us. So some smaller, more specific genre oriented challenges might be the way to go to fulfill RB request. color is good! patterns is good! something anyone can join in on! |
or how about technology – close up of a clock or pc innards etc ….just a thought :) |
Hi All! Anywhoo… just a few things to put out there. If nothing else it may spark some more ideas. James, will the competitions include photos already in the galleries or will they need to be “new” submissions. I’m thinking the latter for the most part so that members will be challenged and get the creative juices flowing. |
The reason I suggested the less specific topics is that there are a lot of people that are new to this type of photography. The more general the topic the greater the participation. To choose a topic, say bugs, at a time when there are few around would be fine for those of us that have a large collection of macros. We would simply select one and post it. It would be frustrating for someone that doesn’t have that advantage. You have some excellent suggestions. Certainly enough to keep us busy for a number of months! |
i would encourage new images, but if the competition theme happens to suit your best macro image ever, then i wouldn’t want to keep you from entering it. |

James I am itching for another comp all be it a free one – any news yet on what we will be doing mate :) Pat :) |

Find ideas that are strange/unusual…not like ‘waterdrops’ or ‘feathers’.......sometimes the all too common can get boring even in their beauty. |
how about a competition for originality. i find a lot of submissions into this group are of flowers and insects, i would love to see a more eclectic variety of works. |

It not about who does it the best…… its about who thinks about it and really cares? Thanks – just me…. ~Ari” |

Guess what it is? Macros that are mysterious and/or unrecognizable (so it could be a flower if you think that nobody will figure out what it is) would be a nice and novel topic. This will likely include the strange and unsual category. The secrets (what was in the photo) will be kept until the competition is over. Cheers, Miron |
