• Why photography?

Well I can’t say I have been interseted in photography since I was so high, in fact, it is only since about early 2006 that I started to get a real interest in improving my photography.
My first digital was a Olympus mju 300 and was used mainly for documenting family life (snapshots) and for taking on family walks, as that was my sort of main hobby or activity,I used to enjoy trying to capture some of the beauty on the walks I did but as I had no idea how to do a good composition or understood much about light etc, most shots were deleted or unsuccesful and before that I never dabbled much in film, except for snapshots etc….
Then In about may 2006 I joined digital-photo-forum.com, this was a digital photo learning forum, I came across it by accident really as I was looking on the internet for a new camera upgrade, I didn’t know there was such a thing, I saw the most wonderful and amazing photography I’d ever seen, I would get goosepimples looking at this work, sounds mad perhaps but true it so inspired me, this is why I picked photography as my passion and got the most wonderful and helpful critique from the guys on there, many who are now on redbubble. I learned so much in those early days and my passion and love for this new art grew.
I also now believe it is a gift from God and is enabling me to capture his beauty around, espescialy landscape and nature and share this with everybody.
Since september 2006 I got myself a Nikon D70s DSLR and this has enabled me to get better results and be more creative with my work.

• What motivates me?

just looking at the surrounding area, espescially landscapes and nature, I just look around and I want to capture that beauty that is all around us, since photography, my eyes have seriously been opened to the things I see around me, the water, the grass, the hills etc, never noticed half of it before, this motivates me, also seeing other great work on Redbubble motivates me, it gives me ideas and I get inspired by many poeples work on here…

• What can I tell you about my lighting or reflection techniques?

Well that’s a difficult one, as I don’t have anything written down, it’s all up here LOL, I try not to go out when the sun is at it’s highest,Ideally, the light near the end of the day is great for my shots, I would love to get that early morning light but unfortunately, can’t get up early when I am off work.

In the last year I have got heavily involved with HDR photography as now many of my shots will be either 3 shot auto bracketed shots that have been hdr’d and tonemapped or single Raw file conversions to HDR,
Many of my works are processed this way, this really does make a big difference to the exposure and look of the final image, this can be taken too far and a shot can be ruined, but if done carefully, is a big improvement to many a final image…

• Goals

Coming on to Redbubble in January this year was my first move into selling my work, I was very negative on myself, I thought no one would buy my work, it’s not good enough, I have sold a few cards up to date, I now have my work sold in a shop in my hometown and have sold about 40 artworks in about 10 weeks and sell my work as cards in the church bookstore, these are going down very well too. And I also have been given the job as “official church photographer”, this doesnt involve weddings, just church events and church walks etc, I am always out of my comfort zone when taking shots of poeple, never feeling quite comfortable,I have been told to try Wedding photography and portraiture as that’s where the cash is I am very inexperienced in this area and to be frank, it scares the hell out of me all that social photography.
I would like to do more in the future of nature, wildlife and landscape photography, this I love…and then I will see where that goes.

Cheers..Jason…

Good hope
