/ Spare a thought this winter…. / London, England. / Canon eos 450D / Accompanying poem by Ainsley As holidays draw near / Frost covers the ground / Family and friends / Gather cheerfully around / The warmth of a hearth / In a home decorated / To celebrate the season / Keeping toasty, saturated / With the heat emanating / From a roaring, rich fire / Soothing souls with its comfort / As flames shoot ever higher. / But what of those wandering / In a citys harsh jungle? / No wood to warm / Tired bones as they crumble / In heaps as they cling to / Any heat source, they cower.. / So hopeless their fight / Against winter’s fierce power. / So, if you should see a lost soul / On your way home, bitter cold… / Be thankful for what’s waiting / Behind your front door. / For the body that’s desperate / Against steel gutter’s grate / Is no different from yours, / Just separated by fate.
Local knifesharpening shop downtown Bundi, Bundi is one of these places where you step back in time, it’s very interesting and you can spend days just wondering around the little streets, with so many tiny shops like these. Most people also live in or behing these tiny shops. Rajahstan, India. / My website /
A very kindhearted lady I met in a rural village in Laos. Laos was a French colony at the start of the 20th century. It was a union of two former kingdoms, Luang Prabang and Vientiane. The French administered it as a territory within the protectorate of French Indo-China. After World War II, French Indo-China was divided up into three independent countries within the French Union: Cambodia, Laos (independent on 1949-07-19), and Vietnam. Staying over night in the village, at the whimsical invitation of a woman I met on a local bus, was one of the best chances I ever took on my travels. Spending a couple days with the children, families and elders of this village will remain one of my most memorable of experiences. They were all precious!!! A classic shot, and one that I have always liked, is one person in a crowded scene looking at the camera. To me it creates a connection between the subject and the viewer that has always intrigued me. Even when that one person is Stevie Wonder that connection is there. And perhaps more so. / (Taken in Hollywood California with a Nikon D300 using a Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 lens) Featured in the group AMERICAS ~ Rural, Urban, Wild, Free in March 09 / Featured in the group Karios in Oct 09 —Top 10 placing in the Public Events Challenge in the group Karios.
July 4th, 2009: I was honored with being able to attend a US Citizenship Swear-In ceremony for members of the US Armed Forces, held in Townpoint Park, Norfolk, VA. I myself attended such a ceremony in 1997 to become a proud citizen of this great nation. I love the symbolic notion of the one foot that is sort of suggesting taking that next step forward as a citizen to be. Taken with Nikon D300 & Sigma 50-500mm

A viewer contemplates Noh masks at an exhibit in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan. FEATURED IN THE IMAGES & IDEAS GROUP ON OCT. 24/09 FEATURED IN THE KAIROS GROUP ON OCT. 25/09 FEATURED IN THE SPEAKING PHOTOS GROUP ON NOV. 1/09 FEATURED IN THE YOUR MAGIC PLACE GROUP ON NOV. 4/09 Noh is a type of masque, which is performed by actors with masks. There are sixty basic types of Noh masks. It is said that today we have two hundred and some dozens different kinds of Noh masks. Covering the face with a mask is related to the transformation of a person, just like make-up. It is said that a Noh mask has more power than just a tool of disguise; it has an element of spell, which provides spiritual power to the Noh actor. The Noh mask is called omote. As we can understand from the fact that Noh mask controls the importance (rank) of Noh drama, the mask is quite significant for Noh actors. In most cases, there is no particular mask assigned to a particular character. Rather, the type of masks to be used is designated for each drama. Therefore, it ultimately depends on shite to decide which mask he will use for the drama, and he selects from those available. Noh was called “sarugaku” or “sarugaku-no-Noh” from the Heian and Kamakura eras through the Edo era. These names are associated with the origin of Noh, “sangaku” being a performance art introduced from China during the Nara era.

This man is watching his cattle, its a chaotic moment , half the cattle in the river ,some on land, some on the ramp on the ferry to Toumbouctou. / The ramp is very slippery and its almost awfull to see the cows sliding back from the ramp and landing half in the air and halfl in the air. I had real mixed feelings about this while i was trying to watch. They had to go on that ferry,,what a nightmare and all those tourists and local people wanting to go on the ferry too… / They all wanted/needed to go to Toumbouctou to go to The Festival in the Desert.., Mali. / Watch this /
