Help us eat biscuits

Redbubble is a small but fast growing company, serving the needs of a vast community of incredibly talented artists and designers from around the world. Dealing with the fascinating and intricate challenges this poses keeps us so excited sometimes we forget how to dress properly. Occasionally it's as confusing as trying to solve a Rubik's cube in the dark, but it's consistently more satisfying than picking the fastest moving queue at the supermarket. We have an incredibly open environment encouraging innovation from all corners of the company, except the corner where we keep the bins and the spare printer ink. Everyone is encouraged to speak their minds, even if their minds are full of balloons and swear words.

Aside from the general sense of brilliance working here provides, we also offer many perks and benefits to our employees. Such as:

  • Your own chair
  • Free air conditioning
  • Male and female toilets
  • Healthy office vinyl collection (including The Final Countdown on 12")
  • And much much more!

Also every so often the Chief Executive Officer turns up with a big bag of candy which anyone in the office can help themselves to.

We're based in Melbourne, Australia, and Mountain View, USA. Both offices have biscuit cupboards.

At the moment, we're looking for…

Product Designer

We’re looking for a Product Designer to expand our team, allowing us to make Redbubble better for our artists every day (twice a day if required). Product Designers are looked to for visual design and interaction experience from inception to production at RB. We’re not looking for closed door designers here, we’re after generalists who are not just world-class designers, but are eager to get deeply involved in more than just pixels.

You live and breathe online. You check Twitter before you’ve left your bed and have already seen today’s shots on Dribbble. You'd think nothing of politely contacting other sites about their “failure to support Retina displays” during breakfast. You think most of the internet is weak and wonder how people get it wrong so often - without being completely dogmatic yourself.

What will you be working on? Well that’s up to you. Wherever you see your talents being most useful, that’s where you will be. See someone working on something that needs your brain? Go do that. See something we’re missing that you feel is important, let’s roll. That being said, we’re keen on testing things here at RB, so wherever possible we expect you would be intent on confirming these hunches one way or another before proceeding headlong into something. And before you ask, no, we’re not going to go off the rails testing 41 different shades of blue – At our core, we’re still a company that understands and respects design in a way that has treated us and our artists well so far.

A List of things You Probably Want

  • Experience in a related role
  • Ability to think at a high level - not just 'how it should look' but ‘why we should build it'.
  • Absolutely fantastic design skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively - especially around design concepts
  • Happy to code & happy to learn - You should know or learn about HTML, CSS, SASS, JS, jQuery & Github
  • Open to testing & analysis with a thick skin
  • Embrace responsive design like it was the Voltron toy you always wanted for Christmas
  • Not shy to write copy

Equipment is no problem, we’ll sort you out with whatever you might need to be fantastic at your job. We have flexible working options, a turntable waiting for your vinyl and our fridge is stocked with drinks and lunchables.

This is a full-time position based in Melbourne, Australia.
