This a mixed media on board. I first did collaging, ( I used one of my woodcut prints to make her dress) then acrylics, and finished up with oil painting. The model is Bellmusker . / Bell is a writer on redbubble and took a self portrait photograph of herself so that I could paint her sleeping in a landscape. I hope she likes it as I did not plan this too much, just kept painting until It was done. This is the end result. BillyLee, Belinda Nye, Billy
This miniature is Chinese made but in a Japanese Style. These can get very expensive when made of porcelain and while this one is about 8 inches, some are as much as three times taller. Photographed with a Canon 5D Mark II, EF70-300 mm DO IS Lens Macro Filter and diffused 430EX Flash.
Managed to take this handheld, which I was really proud of because at maximum telephoto and with my handshake, this should have been a blur.

Sometimes when you least expect it, things change. Light pours into your life and your eyes are opened to possibilities that weren’t there before. The fog clears and you reach out to grasp what is there before you…., then with newborn strength, you hurl the damn alarm across the room and turn over for another five minutes of blissful oblivion….

Self-portrait This was a concept I had in mind prior to the time I uploaded Lily. I folded a couple more lilies with 15×15mm pieces of papers, but as I tried out the photo, it didn’t look so good. So I bumped up the size folded more lilies, this time with 2×2cm papers, and I think it looks better. This idea was based on my Substitute for a silent mouth of Sorrow have a look at that piece to read what that one is about. But don’t get me wrong; I’m not gloomy or anything :-) just wanted to execute the idea. Taken with an Olypus FE-340 on Nov. 20, 2009

A Tsuba is the Japanese name for the hand guard and this one is a motif from the Paul Chen Series, specifically designed as a forged Shinken Yo to be used for Tameshigiri or cutting practice. I myself engage in little cutting practice but do sometimes teach Iaido which is mostly Kata or theoretical mobilization studies based on various defensive drawing positions. At any rate Japanese made swords are collector items and even many women collect Tsubas and other sword furnishing which can get somewhat expensive. This sword for example is actually quite modest at just under $2,000 in US currency.
The above is the Japanese name for this Buddhist Deity who is called the more difficult to pronounce Avalokitesvana in Sanskrit. Currently the depiction is commonly female but can also be male and represent compassion and mercy. Thus the literal translations are suggestive of watchful listening or the one who sees all in the former case and the Lord who regards all in the latter. This stewart is said to witness the prayers and cries of all cough in the difficulties of the earthly realm and to hold back on her own full Enlightenment to aid others achieve. Erstwhile Kannon is said to be the active manifestation of Amida Buddha, and in turn Daruma the father of Zen and the Dalai Lama are manifestations of her! This figurine is under 5 inches in height which I bought some time ago from a Tibetan Gift Shop. Hence my motivation now is that I’ve bought a macro filter and new Canon 430EX II flash, that I couldn’t wait to try out! Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and a flash sync for the aperture!
