For FailingMemory.. / Lal Lal is in the middle of the Gold fields, between Buninyong and Elaine, and my where i live.. / Victoria’s only attempt at mining and smelting iron ore took place at Lal Lal in the latter stages of the nineteenth century. In the mid 1870s, the Lal Lal Iron Company installed mining machinery, erected a large blast furnace and constructed a tramway to convey ore from the mine. For a brief time in the early 1880s, the Lal Lal Company had over 100 men engaged in mining and smelting the iron ore, gathering limestone (flux) and firewood, and manufacturing charcoal. The company also operated a foundry at Ballarat. The Lal Lal Iron Works had ceased operations by the end of the 1880s. The Lal Lal Iron Mine and Smelting Works is of historical, archaeological and scientific importance to the State of Victoria. The site is already listed on the Register of the National Estate. The Lal Lal Iron Mine and Smelting Works is historically and scientifically important as the site of the State’s only attempt to smelt iron ore with a blast furnace. The significance of the site is enhanced by the substantial remnants of the blast furnace being of its type surviving in the southern hemisphere. The Lal Lal Iron Mine and Smelting Works is scientifically important for its illustration of local adaptation of imported iron smelting technology. The design of the furnace, construction materials, and smelting technique used at the site harking back to 18th century European iron smelting technology. The site is archaeologically important for its potential to yield artefacts and evidence which will be able to provide significant information about the technological history of mining. Year Construction Started 1870 / info from Link

Ponka Wilderness Area, Arkansas The Natural State Entering the wilderness, this trail enters the 11,300-acre of Ponka Wilderness. Some of the most pristine wilderness, and indigenous hard wood forest in the US. / A place largely free of the sights, and sounds of our modern world. / Trails cross steep grades, and ford over the Buffalo National River, and its many tributaries. / With its steep rugged terrene, one needs to consider their physical abilities, and of course current weather conditions before hiking these trails. Be prepared I took this image in 2006 when I was able to get out, and hike the beautiful Arkansas Wilderness. I thank God everyday for the many images I have taken along my way, and each time I view them, I can re-live that moment, in time. This image is dedicated to my friend Lynn. Thanks so much for being you :) Canon Powershot S3 IS / / /

Now I’m no expert on our feathered friends, but I reckon the Starling is one of our most under rated Birds. / Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, / starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy / with a sheen of purples and greens. If you have patients, and can get one on its own, you will hear all manner of recordings. / The Starling has a remarkable ability to mimic ALL sounds it hears. / A various array, from Car alarms, to Song Thrushes. / Not only does this wondrous little Bird entertain, it also lives up to its given name.
Tukkie is the Barman at a lodge that we stayed in, in Kruger National Park. He was always smiling and laughing. Taken 2009.
And the rain began and rose above the mountains. Some of the animals had been hard to round up – Noah needed a little help. . . :o) / ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ / This was a collaborative challenge image at LPS. The start image of the hand was from an LPS forum member so thank you – ;o) – the ocean image and the animal images are my own. / Added the Orton Effect to add a subtle softness. This is a resubmission as the 1st one got deleted accidentally… sorry (if a group has already accepted this – I didn’t mean to delete it) / Thank you for looking. . . Hello, and welcome to the Human and Nature group. This is a group for landscape images that include man-made objects (sheds, tractors, trains, buildings etc).
The landscape portion and the man-made portion of any image should contain equal emphasis; one should not completely overwhelm the other.
Please note: the presence of a human in an image does not satisfy the criteria for a man-made object (even though your mother may have a very different opinion on the subject :o) )
For example, an image of some children playing with a ball in a field would probably be rejected, as the only object that would be considered man-made is the ball!
Seascapes or skyscapes that have no landscape element in them are not considered acceptable.
