Llandudno pier opened in August 1877 at a length of 1,234 ft. / Extended 7 years later to a length of 2,295 ft. / It had a landing stage built in 1891. which still receives ships like the Waverley and the balmoral today. / For over 100 years the pier pavilion hosted all sorts of events such as political rallies to summer show and pantomime. In 1994 a mysterious fire gutted the historic pavilion which has never been rebuilt. / But apart from this the pier remains remarkably unaltered from it’s victorian heyday.
Totnes (pronounced /ˈtɒtnɨs/ or /tɒtˈnɛs/) is a market town at the head of the estuary of the River Dart in Devon, England within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is about 22 miles (35 km) south of the city of Exeter and is the administrative centre of the South Hams District Council. Totnes has a long recorded history, dating back to 907AD when its first castle was built; it was already an important market town by the 12th century. Indications of its former wealth and importance are given by the number of merchants’ houses built in the 16th and 17th centuries. /

The Three Sisters of Glencoe. Mountain range in Lochaber, Highland, Scotland. The Massacre of Glencoe occurred in Glen Coe, Scotland, in the early morning of 13 February 1692, during the era of the “Glorious Revolution” and Jacobitism. In Gaelic, the event is named ‘Mort Ghlinne Comhann’ (murder of Glen Coe). The massacre began simultaneously in three settlements along the glen—Invercoe, Inverrigan, and Achnacon—although the killing took place all over the glen as fleeing MacDonalds were pursued. Thirty-eight MacDonalds from the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by the guests who had accepted their hospitality, on the grounds that the MacDonalds had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, Mary II and William II. Another forty women and children died of exposure after their homes were burned. If you would like to buy a card, print or poster just go to ‘buy/preview’

Hawai’i is the newest landmass in Polynesia and the most isolated settled area on the globe, rife with unique ecosystems. Maui, sitting in the middle of the main Hawaiian island chain, is young geologically. Haleakala, still volcanically active in the 18th century and now considered dormant, rises 10,023 feet. The older and more eroded West Maui Mountains are 1.3 million years old. The tallest point at Pu’u Kukui – 5,788 feet – is one of the rainiest spots on earth. Ka’anapali is on the leeward side of these mountains of West Maui on the slopes facing the islands of Lana’i, visible on the horizon in this image and the beautiful island of Moloka’i.” Information Source Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / Shooting Date 30 September 2009 / This is a composite of two images taken on the same location at the same time stitched one over the other / Currently with 2826 Views

/ In Italy, particularly in Palermo, marzipan is often shaped and painted with food colorings to resemble fruit — Frutta martorana — especially during the Christmas season and on Il Giorno dei Morti on November 2. May 9 and 10 are also special days for eating marzipan in Sicily. In Portugal, where the confection has been made by nuns since olden times, traditional marzipan fruit shaped sweets made in the Algarve region are called morgadinhos. There are other regions, as Toledo in Spain in which marzipan is shaped into simple animal shapes, and usually filled in with egg yolk (yema) and sugar. / Chocolate cake and marzipans / Ingredients (serves 8) 200g butter, chopped 250g dark chocolate, chopped 4 eggs, separated 1 cup caster sugar / Method: 1. Preheat oven to 160°C/140°C fan-forced. Grease a 6cm-deep, 22cm (base) round springform cake pan. Line base and side with baking paper. / 2. Place butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water (make sure bowl doesn’t touch water). Stir over low heat until smooth. / 3. Using an electric mixer, beat egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar for 5 minutes or until thick and creamy. Beat eggwhites in a separate bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in remaining sugar until dissolved. / 4. Add chocolate mixture to egg yolk mixture. Mix to combine. Add one-quarter of the eggwhite mixture. Mix well. Fold in remaining eggwhite mixture. Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 50 minutes or until top is firm to touch and a skewer inserted into centre has moist crumbs clinging. Cool cake in pan. Serve.
