A new addtion to the Still Life series, “Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots” pays tribute to the lovely art of stenciling that experienced a resurgence in the 80s then got overexposed and trite…well know in Europe for centuries, in North America itinerant stencillors made a good living going from town to town with their tools…evidence of their beautiful work still remains today and is shown in museums around the world... / I chose to infuse this painting with the flavour of an old garden room, where the plaster has fallen off and the single stencil though greatly worn with age still looks beautiful…the terracotta pots which are so delightful to paint, add to the feeling of age…I have a number of these ancient pots, and though they are still under wraps right now, I know them so well I think I can reproduce them in my sleep... My study on Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’ Sometimes you just have to copy the artist work to fully understand it. I did this awhile back when scrutinizing his art just wasn’t enough. I needed to understand more, so I challenged myself to imitate one of my long tim fav. piece.’The Kiss’, and I have to say I’m pretty happy with the result. :) Took me only 15 mins. Pastel and graphite pencil on sketchbook. Here’s Klimt’s Original ‘The Kiss /

Watercolour & ink on basic watercolour paper This image is currently being used by the Kilmarnock band Kung Fu on their music player on Myspace for their brilliant track called “Stranger”! Here’s the link: / http://www.myspace.com/themightykungfu The song was written by Kenny, the lead singer, who woke up in hospital with a fractured skull after being hit by a car and had to learn to speak, read, write all over again – he was “a stranger to himself”. Great song, have a listen!
wiki : Extreme examples of the Ginkgo’s tenacity may be seen in Hiroshima, Japan, where four trees growing between 1–2 km from the 1945 atom bomb explosion were among the few living things in the area to survive the blast (photos and details). While almost all other plants (and animals) in the area were destroyed, the ginkgos, though charred, survived and were soon healthy again. The trees are alive to this day.
Village of the Arts is located in downtown Bradenton, Florida. This neighborhood was once plagued with crime and rundown houses has been transformed into the Gulf coast’s largest artist colony. The neighborhood now has dozens of shops and galleries featuring everything from sculptures, paintings and photography to handmade jewelry, crafts, bookstores and a metal works shop. Most of these artists live, create and sell their work in their homes. It was absolutely charming and has become a national model for neighborhood revitalization. Featured in / Yellow Two Nov 2009
