How many pictures can you take?? This is just to show you that all my lion shots were truly a close encounter. This is the male cub who just loved getting stroked. The stick is in my left hand because if he rose up you had to show you were the ‘master’ by tapping the stick at the side of his head! yeah – right!! Anyway the man with the dart gun was close by. I love cats and this was one time I could honestly say it was the most terrific experience and one I’d always wanted to have. I spent about 3 hours with both cubs.
Taken in Old Mayport Village FL. I can’t believe they walk out on this old pier!!! Too riskey for me!!!!

The story of my life is very plain to read / It starts the day you came / And ends the day you leave / The story of my life begins and ends with you / The names are still the same / And the story’s still the truth I was alone. / You found me waiting and made me your own / I was afraid / That somehow I never could be a man that you wanted of me You’re the story of my life, and every word is true / Each chapter sings your name / Each page begins with you / It’s the story of our times and never letting go / If I die today, I wanted you to know Stay with me here / Share with me, care with me / Stay and be near / and when it began I’d lie awake every night / Just knowing somewhere deep inside / That our affair just might write The story of my life it’s very plain to read / It starts the day you came / It ends the day you leave / (neil diamond)
A November Red Admiral with incredibly late Painted Ladies. / Collage by Picasa 3 / Images by Panasonic G1 RAW edited in Silky Pix / 151109 “Every year Painted Lady butterflies arrive in the UK from North Africa and the Mediterranean. It has long been known that they breed here during the summer and also that they cannot normally survive our winters. What happens to these Painted Ladies as winter approaches was unknown until now. Scientists had been baffled as to whether Painted Ladies attempted to ‘tough it out’ and died trying during our winters. Or was there a return southward migration to warmer climes, as is the case with Swallows, Cuckoos and Red Admiral butterflies? Part of the problem has been that, unlike these other well-known migrants, there was very little evidence of Painted Ladies flying south in the autumn. This summer was a bumper migration year with, at the peak, up to a billion Painted Ladies in Britain. Butterfly Conservation has been monitoring Painted Lady movements since the start of northward migration at the beginning of the year, with members of the public being able to report sightings online. There has been a huge response, not only from the UK but from across Europe. An amazing 12,000 sightings have been submitted so far, with reports still coming in. Last month brought some particularly exciting reports. From the Channel coasts of Cornwall, Devon, Sussex and Kent sightings were reported of Painted Ladies heading straight out to sea towards continental Europe. Now reports have been received of butterflies arriving back in the Mediterranean and North Africa. Richard Fox, Butterfly Conservation’s surveys manager, said “Several of these lucky observers saw more than one butterfly head out on its perilous voyage. This is exactly the evidence needed to lay this enduring mystery to rest. Painted Ladies do return southwards from Britain in the autumn enabling the species to continue its breeding cycle during the winter months”.
This is my British Blue shorthair puss cat called Saffy. She has yellow eyes and now, white whiskers, as she is almost 11 years old. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and 35-70 mm lens.
While visiting Sanibel Island Lighthouse in Sanibel Florida, we saw the Osprey eating his catch, way up n the light pole he was, not worrying about the crowd below or the four women taking his photo, it was so exciting to see him so close and enjoying his lunch. An eagle fishing on the Susquehanna river in front of the dam . Worked the colors in capture n/x 2 He did get the fish not sure which varity a shad more than likly . An eagles success rate for grabbing and actully eating a fish in the wild is below 30% ,here at this location because the dam churns out so many dead and stunned fish the % is over 90 .The eagles biggest problem here is getting away from the many other eagles that are to lazy to fish on there own .They wait for a hungry eagle to get the fish then they will chase that bird until he drops it and they can swoop down and grab it or they give up and fly away to try again .I have seen so many birds drop a fish after being chased only to have another bird grad it out of mid air.The photos i have of this are not very good but i am hopeing to get one to post soon. / I use a nikon d200 and a300mm vr lens settings for this shot—1/800 sec at f/8 iso400 spot metering
Dreams held so close, of pretty flowers, and dresses. Dolls to play with, parents to love. A childhood lost forever never to have hold of again. / Memories of the longing, the wanting to be, lost little child deep inside of me. / Dreams of a lost childhood, treasures so longed for, of simple things, a box to hold special notes, and silk handkerchief to run my fingers through, a doll of dark complexion, with hair like mine, a book of poems, some one to tell me they cared. Just for the instance, a whisper in the night, a treasure to hold on to, so very tight. / Dreams of a lost childhood, cautioned the woman I am to be. Virginia N Fred

This is the term we local photographers give to an eagle perched in a tree .When i say local i mean the regulars at the Conowingo dam on the Susquehanna river in Maryland. There are about 10 or 12 of us who are there everyday .This was taken sunday November /22 /2009.We figured this bird was about 4 years old not quite a mature eagle and he sat in this tree which was leaning out over the river for over 4 hours ,Since the action was slow with very few birds flying I said that this fellow was the most photographed bird that day.It was only about 40 feet away from the road and with over 60 people with cameras shooting for 4 hours he must have about 2 million photos taken of him, this was one of mine.I use a nikon d200 and a 300mm lens settings 1/500 sec / f/6.3 / iso 640 / spot metering / aperture priority

This is a detail of Busselton Jetty at Busselton in Western Australia, Australia. This was taken in summer with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and 18-55mm lens. Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty (pier) in the southern hemisphere, stretching almost 2 km out to sea from the town of Busselton, Western Australia. Because the shallow waters of Geographe Bay restricted ship movement, a long jetty was required so that the cut timber could be transported to the ships. In 1839 Governor Hutt appointed “the place in Geographe Bay opposite the Settlement at The Vasse to be the legal place for the loading and unloading of goods”. Construction of the jetty commenced in 1853 after persistent pressure by settlers. In 1865 the first section of the jetty became available for ships to moor. In 1875 an additional 131 metres was added to the original structure, as over 10 years accumulation of drift sands had made the water too shallow for mooring. The jetty was continually extended until the 1960s when it reached its current length of 1841 metres.
