Kako Paru (Quebrada de Jaspe or Jasper Creek) is a small set of waterfalls in a forested creek in Canaima National Park in Venezuela. The name means fire creek in the language of the Pemon (local indigenous tribe) and originates from the extraordinary effect water has on the jasper bed of the river. The action of water polishes this otherwise dull stone to a fire orange and red colour. The whole creek bed is just one gigantic slab of jasper which is quite slippery but amazingly beautiful. I cannot remember the name of these dd trees but they are quite common in Venezuela where I lived for several years… They atcually use the nutshells from these megafruits as bowls.. This was snapped in A garden Near Plaza Francia in Altamira, Caracas about 5 years ago….. with my first digital Camera an Olympus 2.1 Mpx Converted to B&W and “softened” using Digital Darkroom Techniques in CS2 For those of you then who feel this is not Photography and Photoshop Darkroom is not Valid…. I suggest you light a match in your darkroom and take up tiddlywinks!!! Same deal/same processes you would use in a traditional darkroom – bar the signature! The Tree is in a park in front of Centro Plaza, Altamira, Chacao – Caracas!
Taken at Rio Chico – San Jose,Venezuela round 5 years ago

IR image of the trees at the edge of Tonina Lake in Llovizna Park. I really liked the dead branches among the lush vegetation. The leaves reflect a lot of infrared while the branches reflect very little creating interesting contrast. The tone in the sky is the result of the manual white balance setting used to take the image. / Shot at f/11, 8 sec exposure. Cokin P007 IR filter.
I took this one from my office roof… To the right side you can see a mountain, Avila National Park, that mountain sorrounds Caracas from the north as a natural wall between the ciity and the Caribbean sea. The group of buildings ahead are in Los Palos Grandes and La Castellana neighbourhoods, almost all of them are finnacial towers. No edition but cropping. / No filters. Nikon D60
