I’d long admired pics like this – and have tried time and again to get one whenever I get an opportunity to see a great sunrise. I always failed as I thought this was done using a long exposure+panning. / But thankfully, I also got a lot of shots with no panning … Thankfully as thanks to this wonderful tutorial by a fantastic RB photographer Peter Hill I was able to convert these captures. PS: just noticed that my pic looks like his close but no cigar shot!! Oh well – Back to the drawing board!! Nikon D80 / Nikon 18-135 at 20mm / f/22 and 5 sec / ISO 100

THIS REALLY HAS TO BE VIEWED LARGER The Greater Blue Mountains Area consists of 1.03 million ha of sandstone plateaux, escarpments and gorges dominated by temperate eucalypt forest. The site, comprised of eight protected areas, is noted for its representation of the evolutionary adaptation and diversification of the eucalypts in post-Gondwana isolation on the Australian continent. Ninety-one eucalypt taxa occur within the Greater Blue Mountains Area which is also outstanding for its exceptional expression of the structural and ecological diversity of the eucalypts associated with its wide range of habitats. The site provides significant representation of Australia’s biodiversity with ten percent of the vascular flora as well as significant numbers of rare or threatened species, including endemic and evolutionary relict species, such as the Wollemi pine, which have persisted in highly-restricted microsites. If visiting Sydney, the Blue Mountains is 2hours west of the city, well worth a couple of days to marvel at the scenery, wilderness and wildlife. / Take a bushwalk, abseil the cliffs, setup your tripod take photos or enjoy a Devonshire Tea. Equipment:Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm , Manfrotto Tripod / technique:HDR, 5 Bracketted Images, Processed in Photomatix 3.2 64Bit
This sparrow had just flitted in when I was lining up a close-up of one of the historic clocks at Flinders Street station. Rather than wait for him to fly away, I hit the trigger anyway – and as I did so, he cocked his head, so I was lucky with my timing. These clocks are placed above the name of each train line and show the departure time of the next train, so you have a rather unique view of several old analogue clocks, all showing different times. In this case, the clock showed the next departure on the St Albans line. For decades, this has been a hub for Melburnians in more ways than one. “Meet me under the clocks at Flinders Street” has always been the refrain, although I suspect mobile phones or cellphones have drastically reduced that need. As you can see from this shot, the clocks are almost 100 years old. It’s interesting too, to note that the clock face has Roman numerals, while the brass plaque saying “Edmiston & O’Neill” has normal numerals. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F6.7, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, focal length 170mm. 120-1440

Caught this guy during a photo shoot that I was doing for a client. Couldn’t pass up getting close with my 300mm lens. No time for tripod on this one so I tried to stay as steady as possible.
