The Cairngorms and Loch Morlich, on an overcast day
Another of Frank Bruce’s sculptures in the Cairngorm National park – on a forest walk nr Loch Insch. It is called the Walker – looking at the statue…his right leg is to the front – his left leg has his arm and hand resting on it – - the third leg !! Well he carved the centre out so needed a support I’m assuming – Amazing height but all carved from a dead tree on site.
We’re so lucky to have these cheeky little creatures in the Scottish Highlands. Its always lovely to see them and fun to watch them run about the trees.
I got 2008 off to a good start – the first weekend in January, took the funicular railway up Cairn Gorm to the `Ptarmigan’ centre. It was -5ºC outside with extra windchill – so cold I could only run out for 2mins and shoot things before hands got so frozen I couldn’t operate the shutter properly. This photo was taken looking into a blizzard with little flecks of snow/ice blowing hard into the lens (or my face, when camera wasn’t in the way). Ouch. / Nikon d200, sigma 24-70mm lens

A curve of rocks noticed at sunrise on the still quiet Loch Morlich, in the Cairngorms. This whole area is a UK national park, of which there are 13 in total. Challenge winner – The Cairngorm National Park, UK National Parks 508 views 20/11/09
