Remains of the old calcine kilns at West Rosedale. In the 19th century ironstone mining changed the look of Rosedale, a valley in the North York Moors National Park… it became a bustling area, a railway was built to ferry the iron ore to the iron works in County Durham. The industry has now gone, the photo is of the remains of one of the kilns. The iron ore was tipped into the top of the kilns and then heated (roasted) to get rid of water and carbonic acid gas. This lightened the iron ore, making it easier and cheaper for transportation. The process was known as calcinations. / Because of the dark dramatic skies, I decided to try b/w, it has an older feel to it.
The sunset and low cloud cover helped create a superb effect across the peaceful waters of Loch Lomond in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

North York Moors National Park
Taken at Staindale Lake, Dalby forest, North Yorkshire. The Staindales, High and Low, take their names from the Viking for ‘stony valley’. This is probably a reference to the rocky nature of nearby ravines and the amazing jurassic rock formations of the Bridestones and the Adderstone. A small attractive lake has been created in the valley providing a refuge for ducks and geese. One of Scotland’s grandest castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture, Stirling Castle commands the countryside for many miles around. It towers over some of the most important battlefields of Scotland’s past including Stirling Bridge, the site of William Wallace’s victory over the English in 1297, and Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated the same foe in the summer of 1314. Taken with my D300 18-50 sigma lens ND4 grad hand held, single shot, Tone mapped in Photomatix Pro and Processed in NX2 software.

Fordson Model N Standard Tractor Circa 1939 From 1933 Fordson Model N production was moved to the Ford Plant at Dagenham, Essex. The main advantages of the Model N Standard Fordson over the Model F were a more powerful engine of 27 h.p., a high tension ignition system, water pump and mudguards as standard equipment. Pneumatic tyres were an extra cost option, initially uptake was quite slow but once their advantages became appreciated many Model N owners replaced the iron wheels with pneumatic tyres, it was not uncommon that this would be for the rear wheels only. / This one I found abandoned by the side of what once was a set of farm buildings but have been converted into rather well presented and more luxurios homes at Kentmere in the lake district – Cumbria. / When one considers the amount of food we import to the UK this is a rather sad reflection on the declining farming industry..but it makes for a nice photograph.
Tarn Hows is an area of the Lake District National Park, containing a picturesque tarn, approximately two miles (3.2 km) northeast of Coniston and about one and a half miles (2.5 km) northwest of Hawkshead. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area with over half a million visitors per year in the 1970s and is managed by the National Trust.
