I finally decided that this painting is finished, as I did not want to over work it. The Icelandic mare in the painting is based on my Grey Icelandic mare when she was younger. I tried to keep the ground simple as I wanted the horse to stand out. I have a problem with making things too detailed. This is more on the lines of a Folk Art Style. / This painting is 99.9% Watercolor pencil, used like you would Watercolor cakes. The paper is my favorite bright white hot press paper and the size is 14” by 20”. / Am an Artist located in NW Oregon.
Medium: pencil / All of my life I have wanted a Fresian….they would have to be the most magnificent of all the breeds. When crossed with warmbloods, they make excellent dressage horses!
This image was taken from my original pencil & colored pencil drawing entitled “Arabian 1”. This artwork is also available on my website (www.equusstudio.com) as a limited edition print in three sizes (8×10, 9×12, 11×14) and as an ACEO.
Part of “Horses through the Ages” series / Acrylic on canvas / 24” x 20”

A commission I did some time ago as a raffle prize. Wildon Impressive, ‘Imp’, for short, is a lovely Arabian pony stallion. He sure did show off for me on photo day, prancing around, giving me lovely photos to work from. Derwent colour pencils , white gouache and black ink on mat board. 36×45cm. 2006 Has been featured in ‘Equine Art and Photography’, ‘Traditional Equine Art: Horses, Ponies and Unicorns’ and ‘The Pony Club’ groups.
Done in watercolour on A3 watercolour paper.
Graphite on cartridge paper 1996 I was taking a work out of a frame that I wanted to use for a different painting, and lo and behold, underneath it was this one!!! An oldie, but a goodie!
Acrylic on canvas / This is an image that struck me as I was driving home one evening and caught a glimpse of the moon above the treeline. (Funny how and when the Muse strikes). The spiral-vine pattern is one that continues to excite me and I guess in a way, Moonhorse with her glowing orange eyes and blue spirals is a manifestation of the Muse, herself.
Ink fineliner on paper, October 2009. Most of my horse drawings are inspired by Arabian horses. This horse turned into a unicorn – then I decorated it with gum flowers, gum leaves and wattle blossoms – all of which are in full bloom in our local area during October. Many thanks to the group Traditional Equine Art: Horses, Ponies, and Unicorns! for featuring this work in November 2009.
“Prairie Paint” is a signed, original, pastel and prismacolor pencil drawing. / Drawn on Bienfang, medium tooth, acid free artist drawing paper. / All of my drawings are sprayed with a final professional artist protective fixitive. The romance of the West, Southwest and the Horse is a subject I always return to. I live both in Colorado and in Nevada, so I have an endless supply of personal photography that I draw from for these drawings. I personally developed this sharp focus pastel and prismacolor pencil technique to make my drawings come alive. / My Fine Art and Photography Studio is located in Mesquite, Nevada. / Thank you for viewing my art. Coloured Pencil on paper 1984 / A4 Another Russian breed from an old project of Coloured Pencil drawings I compiled into a blank book many years ago. / It was just an idea for different horse & pony breeds across the world from A – Z.
