Sinister sockets of an industrial era…Maybe I’m just dribbling here!
The original drawing is done in HB and a series of B pencils on cartridge paper . I did this drawing when I was about 18 years old. Featured in Things That Are Black – 5th April 2009. Featured in Fine Arts – 14th April 2009. Featured in Tools – 20th November 2009. Example of framed print:

Tools close to my heart, and the means with which to mend and create. Ends for a challenge in the ‘Tools’ group! Challenge winner of Points and Ends’ challenge in the ‘Tools’ group, November 2009
These tools are used in the creation of imitation flowers. Tissue paper is mainly used and is stretched, scored, rolled and generally tortured into the shapes required to create exquisite flowers which might adorn a beautiful feminine hat…..........or a vase of everlastings!! / the photo was taken using my Canon EOS 400D.
My neighbor let me photograph this old hook to paint. Neither of us know what its true purpose was or if people currently use these. We liked the old worn surfaces. I didn’t have much time to paint so I only did it in a 4” x 6” format. I originally put it on a grey concrete background but didn’t like the contrast so I did a red glaze over the top which gave the piece a slightly macabre vibe. It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The paper texture coupled with the heavy grained paint makes for some nice metal textures. Photo arraingment for tools challenge.
This image has been done for the Challenge I have set in the Tools Group i help to host. Challenge is Points and Ends of everyday tools we use. / So I took some images of things this morning and this I liked the best. No need to comment as for a challenge Nikon D90 and Nikor 18-105vr lens / Focal length 105mm / F/. 5.6 / Exposure 1/60th / ISo 1/600 Natural light, hand held, aperture priority, slight tweak in photshop CS2 for levels .
Cold steel and sharp edges, but oh, what curves!... :-) [Sony a350, Sigma 105, f:20, 15 sec, EV -1.3, Tweaks in Lightroom 3beta]
I give you the Whisk head and I have to add it is clean but I was amazed to see the cloth fibers from drying it with a tea towel when I uploaded it. After the recent challenge set in the Tools Group I have tried a little bit more of still life photography with natural light and for me finding more everyday tools and photographing them, and also to try out some more b&W processing. Nikon D90 and 18-105vr lens / Focal length 105mm / F/. 9 / Exposure 1/10th / ISO 1600 hand held, Aperture Priority, Natural light, converted to B&W with Nikon Efex pro 3
Another image of the simple things we have around us and the tools we use everyday with out thinking. The recent challenge in the Tools Group made me do a collection of images and I loved trying to capture the light on these objects and learn a little about what makes a good image out of the ordinary. A good cup of coffee for me is a real treat after my tea with a square of very good dark chocolate. : ) Nikon D90 and 18-105vr lens Focal length 105mm / F/. 5.6 / Exposure 1/60th sec / IS0 1250 hand held, Aperture Priority, No flash, Natural light slight level tweak in Photshop CS2
After the recent challenge set in the Tools Group I have tried a little bit more of still life photography with natural light or more for me finding everyday tools and photigrphing them, and also to try out some more b&W processing. So I give you a handle of a whisk. Nikon D90 and 18-105vr lens Focal length 105mm / F/. 5.6 / exposure 1/15th / ISo1/600 Hand held natural light, converted in Nikon efex pro 3 into B&W
Straight from camera no processing 20.11.09 well This is me this is a image of me and my D90 for the challenge in the group. I decided just to go for it and take one actually 76 in total in the end. Those that know me will be aware im never in front of the camera, poor Simon tries to photograph me when we are out photgraphing together or also catching me unaware but very few are uploaded on his sight as i say “oh No that is horriable”. So the challenge has really pushed my bounderies today and my camera knowledge, oh and that my mirrors need cleaned. : ) But i have decided to give you just me, this is straight from camera, no editing at all UNTOUCHED, as the camera and mirror sees me at 48 years old, Nikon D90 and Nikkor 18-105vr lens focal length 105mm / exposure 1/13th / IS0 3200 Hand Held, Apeture Priority, natural light, in my bathroom. Still poorly so a little rough round the edges, but those wrinkles are all mine. remind me i have lived a life. : ) / for the first time I have wrote about how doing this made me feel, a new venture for me
Nowhere can the essence be captured more profoundly than in the writings of the inspired… Olympus sp510uz
A brand on the toolbox of a timber framer. He was very proud of it, as he should be. Shot with my Pentax ist ds and my 50mm prime f/1.4
I have many of these left over from my days as an amateur rock climber. I thought they would make a nice addition to my gallery of mundane items. This is painted with a combination of Winsor and Newton watercolor paint and Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The interaction of the coarse paper with the heavy pigmented paint creates interesting textures in this piece. The original is 14”x10” in size. /
Dedicated to all the creative writers on RB…thanks for your wonderful way with words… Olympus sp510uz
A slight bit of custom body work to this SLR, tripod & lens. / Poem. / Within palisades of the mind / Furtive moments of love pass through dreams, / And find solace inside a chamber of watching memories / Reminding each and every memory / How to be the eternal dream, / Whilst the palisades slowly fall inward / Taking away all desire, / Leaving a solitary furtive moment / Alone to weep. / / Poem: One Falling Petal. Spare me the wrath of Christmas, / Eternally in springtime bliss. / And be free from boys dolls and cake. / For god’s sake haven’t we had enough? / Cheap foods and all that useless stuff. / / Prohibitions wouldn’t stop this yuletide gad. / Madness of mind would surround man, woman, girl, and lad. / Shop windows would break, for miss of red not Jesus sake. / Drunks would cry, small children die. / / Christmas time is here for good. / Royal gentle holiday does any like your majestic feast. / Carpet laid on table, dog and cat should moan. / Don’t dream at Christmas it’s all we have at home. / / Image: Nawroski 2009. / Poem: Christmas. We use tools in our everyday life.
There are shed tools, gardening tools, masonary tools, carpenter tools…
Please show us your wonderful images of these fantastic things that we use in our lives.
Please note that we will not be accepting vechiles or diggers,or transport, these we feel are better suited to other groups. We are looking for spanners, saws, hand whisks, graters.
