Hello to all who have ventured to this page… In the spirit of accountability and responsibility / is this journal entry… Firstly, / THANK YOU so much to the groups’ moderators who have Featured my works in the past few weeks!!!! / Art & Stories for Children / 60’s glory / Backyard Photography / Inspired by life / Witches, Wizards & Warlocks Secondly, / As moderator and co-host in 11 redbubble groups – I do SEE/READ most of your artwork and writings, however, I have been remiss recently with commentary – there simply are not enough hours in the day ;) Thirdly, / Being a part of Earthmonster Illustrated – the group, the ezine and now the newest Video group, I admittedly have not mastered the balance necessary for this new endeavor – PLEASE BEAR with me, learning alot, havin’ alot of creative fun, but get lost in the flow too… Keep your eyes open for a special HALLOWEEN edition SOON!!! In the US as fall changes the colors of nature, the crew at EMI followed suit by ‘shakin’ the pumpkin’... / We have added a new icon at emi with the purpose of featuring a new RB talent and encouraging all RB newbies to join us as we in cooperation with the SCOUTS and redbubble highlight and award an upcoming new artist each month. The ezine, Earthmonster Illustrated has changed to a magazine-style cover, as we launch October’s issue with the 2nd edition of Mind Soundtracks – Autumnal Attunement; Danilo’s Covenant; Mel’s World; Living Out Loud; Masquerade of Art; the 1st Scout award feature presentation; and, our HARVEST of artists featuring the best of the best submissions in Art, Writing and T-shirt designs! / Hope you will join the group, encourage our newest & newbie members and check out the October issue!

I was reading this week about aperture and the low, middle and upper aperture settings on a lens and learned something interesting I thought I would share with folks here on RB who may not have heard it either. Sharpness in a lens is best at the middle apertures f/8 or f/11, (I’m sure we’ve all heard this before), but smaller apertures give us a perception of more of the scene in focus (greater depth of field). This means that many people think that f/22 is most often the aperture that gives us the sharpest aperture – but it is not. In fact f/22 is most often the aperture that gives us the worst performance in terms of optical sharpness. Generally anything beyond f/16 yields less overall sharpness. An aperture of say f/16 yields great depth of field and still provides good optical sharpness. The same holds true for wide apertures, say (f/2.8). Optical sharpness is lower with the widest aperture, but is increased by stopping down one stop from wide open, still leaving a very shallow depth of field. So in this case f/4 or one stop above your widest aperture will result in the best optical sharpness. Don’t know how truly accurate this info is, but it makes reasonable sense and I certainly planned to put it into practice. Any added thoughts or opinions are welcome.
