Lucky to spend a couple of days at “The Manor” – a fantastic holiday home at Blanchetown SA – the views (and the wine) where fantastic – inspired a series of different shots “life through the glass” We sat under this great River Red Gum and sampled a few different wines. kept filling the glass and then trying different levels to see how the shot turned out…................ that was my excuse anyway…......... must say they do get blurry if you do this to often ….......... then another glass appeared!!!! Early morning across the beautiful River Murray at Mannum. Dark brooding clouds being lit from behind by the rising sun. The first of the two ferries that take people back and forth across the river can be seen in the foreground. Many thanks again to Dave and Wendy from the Mannum Motel for being such excellent hosts and to Dave for joining me (just after the red glow faded!) for some early morning photography. Mannum is a great place to base yourself for a river experience with photography. Canon 400D 17-85 lens.

Lake Mulwala was created in 1939 by building a dam across the Murray River between Yarrawonga in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales to provide irrigation water for the surrounding district. Crossing the Murray between the two towns is possible across the weir, and also across a bridge over Lake Mulwala. The city of Murray Bridge in South Australia was established when a road bridge over the Murray River was completed in 1879. It was followed in 1886 by the Adelaide-Melbourne railway line which guaranteed that the city’s importance as a vital link across the river was assured. / The township of Murray Bridge was laid out in 1883 and was originally called Mobilong. Later it was called Edwards Crossing but it became Murray Bridge when a new railway bridge was constructed across the river in 1924.
Once more an image taken from the ferry at Waikerie in the Riverland of South Australia. Looking downstream along the River Murray, a soft gentle pink in the sky, a slight breeze is a welcome relief after temperatures of 40degrees C. Taken with Nikon D40 x / lens, 18-55mm / hand held
The waters of the Murray flow through several lakes that fluctuate in salinity (and were often fresh until recent decades) including Lake Alexandrina and The Coorong before emptying through the Murray Mouth into the southeastern portion of the Indian Ocean, often referenced on Australian maps as the Southern Ocean, near Goolwa.[2] Despite discharging considerable volumes of water at times, particularly before the advent of large scale river regulation, the Mouth has always been comparatively small and shallow.
The mighty Murray River near Loxton, Sout Australia. The Murray River, or River Murray and sometimes informally referred to as the “Mighty Murray”, is Australia’s largest river. At 2,375 kilometres (1,476 mi) in length, the Murray rises in the Australian Alps, draining the western side of Australia’s highest mountains and, for most of its length, meanders across Australia’s inland plains, forming the border between New South Wales and Victoria as it flows to the northwest, before turning south for its final 500 kilometres (310 mi) or so into South Australia then ends at the mouth at Lake Alexandrina
