This is another example of my early days of not understanding the value of megapixels, dangit! It’s not even good for a lousy postcard. I risked life and limb to get this pic by descending 200 meters to the base of Ellenborough Falls. That was the easy part. It took ages to get back to the top, and the best cuppa I’ve ever tasted (even if it did cost $2.20 at the kiosk). Manning Valley, NSW Australia.
On Friday night me and my friend Matthew planned to photograph sunrise at Kylies Beach the following morning. As Matthews Dad drove us along the highway towards the beach we saw a storm just offshore, when we arrived there was no more lighting but there were still plenty of dramatic clouds. This was the first use of my new filters and I’m very happy with the results :) Manipulation: / Just cut out the middle section of this photo http://tinyurl.com/ygok7w4 Camera: Pentax k100d / Lens: Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 / Filter: Coking P-series holder with Tian Ya ND Grad / Support: Tripod Editing: / levels, colour balance, sharpened slightly, curves, saturation, border This photograph is ©2009 to Nathan van Dyk and may not be used or reproduced in any way with out written consent from Nathan van Dyk

Taken a couple of years ago in Coorabakh Nature Reserve, Mid North Coast NSW Australia. I thought the combination of dirt road, old Holden (1971 HQ) and Aussie bush was a pretty good look. The camera I had at the time was Hewlett Packard something or other that went bung.

It’s that time of year again when we celebrate Christmas. / As your group host, I’d like to invite all MMVers to a get-together, Christmas BBQ. It would be an ideal opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and have loads of fun. / I suggest Endeavour place BBQ’s, River St Taree on Saturday 12th December around 4pm. It can be a bring your own affair or a plate. At the park there are free bbq’s, sheltered tables and grass. The Manning River is close by and it is located near the sailing club and boat ramp/car park. There is room to play cricket and other ball games so please bring your play equipment and some table and chairs, etc. / I welcome your suggestions, so please if you could all respond to this post and let me know activities you would like to do, numbers attending, and whether or not this proposed date/time is suitable. Cheers Brian
The Manning Valley is a beautiful place. From the golden beaches, the picturesque mountains, the fertile valleys and of course the mighty Manning River.
We who live here are in a unique situation to capture stunning images of the valley, and interact on a personal level.
As a group we can meet up to go on outings and have BBQ’s or to share photographic techniques with each other.
This group is for locals like you and me so if you have an idea for an activity, or need directions to a water hole, please let me know. Brian.
