This is from the facepaint experiment done in collaboration with mama. :D / At first i drew something wierd on my face and then i put my face in water to add the dripping effect. / And….it worked for me! / I think this is my prettiest self portrait so far….lol….pity that most ppl find it scary :( canon 450d FEATURED!!! In “the love of Eerie and enchanting artwork” group!!! / AND in the ALT Fashion group / AND in the Experimental group!!
I suppose I could’ve titled this “I Touch Myself” – but that just seemed a bit…egotistical? They are all my hands, however. But it’s all about imagining – the fantasy of – a lot of others’ hands reaching out and touching…caressing…desiring. Created in photoshop with my many hands and, obviously, my own photos, utilizing multitudinous layers, a filter or two (dark strokes – a fav, and gaussian blur – another fav), and the ever wonderful painting with light technique. Colored pencil, felt marker, pen and ink on bristol. One of only a few tarot cards I created from a perennially back-burner project. My heaviest influence was Aleister Crowley’s Thoth deck, painted by Lady Frieda Harris. Conceptually, the Thoth deck was far ahead of its time, including layers and layers of arabesques, geometry, and hidden images. I monkeyed with the Gamma on the scan of this piece, but I’m not sure if that counts as digital manipulation!
I’m not at all sure I really like this piece. I couldn’t even think of a title for the poor thing lol. AS IS :Porta San Franscisco, Xativa, Spain. This shopfront is at the start of the street which encompasses the twice weekly market. The beautiful church door can be seen along with two ladies discussing their purchases, this old church is extremely difficult to photograph, as the corner is a meeting place and the street is narrow enough to shake hands across. Wow, this one was a bit of a journey! This started life as a photo of my beautiful little sister playing around in the back yard with my kids. I caught her in a pose that reminded me of a Spanish Flamenco dancer and just HAD to try to turn her into one. Only thing was – she was dressed in jeans, a woollen jumper and sneakers. So – first off, she needed a dress. I loathe using other people’s art to make my own so I did not want to take the easy way out by downloading a stock photo for the dress. I had nothing remotely like a the right type of dress to use so I ended up creating this one out of, I kid you not, 417 tiny layers of texture (my own resource, naturally) to create all the waves etc. HOURS and HOURS of work, but the end result was worth it, to my mind anyway. Then of course her hair style needed to be changed from a ponytail into a bun, and flowers needed to be added. / Then I decided that I wasn’t happy with the abstract background I had her in. Next followed a marathon of settings, again all using my own resources, to try her in, from beach scenes to perching on flower petals. Nothing was quite right. / This is what I decided on in the end. My only lament is that because she is tiny, much of the detail in the dress is lost. I hope you’ll view this large to get some idea of just how detailed the dress is, if only to humour me! :))) All resources my own, taken with my Canon Powershot A480 point and shoot in the past month. Proudly New Zealand-Made!!! :) Close up shot of the dancer: SOLD – Two greeting cards of this image, July 2009.
